i've bought a visa for australia and i'm told i have to buy a return ticket. is this necessary, can i refund it when i get there? or do i have to buy one eligible for a year forward?

would it have been impolite of someone to say: dan, you're a berk, the ticket is there so you can get back regardless of your money situation?
no, i don't think it would've been.
