I think I've just been scammed. I would never dream of doing something like this, but I've been so desperate to find somewhere that I actually decided to send a deposit before I signed the contract. The flat looked amazing and it was a great location for a reasonable price. I sent the deposit and had only a couple of emails back after that and then haven't heard from him in two weeks.

The guys name is Timothy Owens. I have the flat address, the guys account number and bank details. Do you reckon I've been scammed? Is there anything I can do with this information?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks.

If you saw the advert on Gumtree, contact Gumtree Admin with the details

Otherwise, contact the Police.

The gumtree stay safe tips when looking for accommodation

http://www.gumtree.com/help/stay_safe#item73

o View properties in person. Gumtree is a local community site and we encourage face-to-face, local, trading. People willing to rent a property without seeing it/ or the prospective tenant first, even if they claim that it is because they are currently overseas, are unlikely to be legitimate.

o Never send or wire money to landlords. This includes never mailing a cheque or using payment services like Bidpay, Western Union or Money Gram to pay for items found on Gumtree. It is our belief that these forms of funds transfer are favoured by fraudsters.
