I have oportunity to get job in docklands. And of course I would like to find a flat or room close by. But I've hread stories about that area. Could someone tell me what kind of place is it?
It seems to be close to centre but on some other forum one guy said "you dont want to leave there" but he didnt write anything else.
If it is for real that area is not very nice- which place would you recommend for living when you work near Poplar?

I like Canary Wharf and surrounding areas- lots of shops and restaurants at the Wharf, and plenty of flats to rent in Docklands - a lot are new builds. I used to live in Mudchute and only problem I had was that it was quite a walk to shops/amenities, but that is not the case everywhere. Also, especially if you are on that branch of the DLR you have Greenwich nearby which is great at weekends with market, pubs, park etc.

With a mix of council estates and new builds parts of Docklands are not some peoples idea of traditional Victorian terrace London living, but it does have character and good connections into the centre. Especially if you're working near Poplar it should be good - Canary Wharf area itself is convenient for shops, tube cinema etc but for a bit cheaper and still near you could try Island Gardens, Mudchute etc (these are on DLR not tube itself).
