A piece of advice for those wanting to teach English in Europe...
before coming to Europe or upon arrival undertake a TEFL/TESOL course.
Being an English native speaker is not enough anymore, there is a lot of competition and the language schools demand an English language teaching qualification.
Normally, the TEFL/TESOL courses are very short (usually no more than 4 weeks) and intensive (a hell of intensive ).
You'll finf that there are plenty of courses on this field out there, however, from my experience, the language schools in Europe recognise and prefer the Cambridge CELTA Certificate when hiring English teachers.
This is the one I did.
The cost is around AUD2600, NZD2.900 or Euros1.400, it can look a bit on the expensive side, but I have to say that you can get the return of this investment with just a couple of good working months.
There are some institutions offering the CELTA in Australia and New Zealand if you are planing to do it before coming over to Europe.
Also, here in Europe, in countries like Spain, it is possible to do it once you are over here.
I hope this helps to all the people that posted messages about teaching English in Europe (quite a few)
Good luck! |
