"More than two million foreigners have been given National Insurance numbers to work in Britain in the past four years, official figures reveal today.

They also show that, by the end of this year, more than one million Eastern Europeans will have been given NI numbers since EU enlargement in 2004.

Shadow immigration minister Damian Green said: "These extraordinary figures show that more than two million new foreign workers have come to Britain in the last four years - and this is simply the number for those who are working legally.

"It is impossible for the British jobs market to absorb so many people so quickly without causing severe strains. ... Without this control the benefits of immigration will be lost among the social and economic difficulties caused by the sheer scale of the current numbers.

A DWP spokesman said: "..the total number of people claiming unemployment benefit has fallen by 91,100 over the last year and the 74.5 per cent employment rate is one of the highest figures on record. The effect of migration since 2004 has been an increase in output and total employment."

crazy thing is most are from the EU and there is nothing you can do to stop the influx. BUt what the government does is bring in things that make it harder for those outside the EU including spouses of UK citizens to get a visa to live here. So they target a smaller group to look like they play hard but in fact they dont do anything to stop the majority of people who come here from the EU.
