I thought it was telling that a white woman stuck up for the migrants, but the local ethnics were very down on them. It was good to see migrants do not jump the housing queue though, contrary to popular beliefs. They don't get any help unless they've been here for 1 year. They all looked like they were working too. The Documentary also paints a grim picture of local employers who are clearly exploiting them by making them work for less. This seems to be what's behind the issue of 'they're taking our jobs.'
The only people who get help straight off the bat were unaccompanied children and asylum seekers. We know numbers of asylum seekers are dropping year on year.
The Government is conning the Local Authorities by reducing the amount it allocates in funds each year. On the one hand they are clearly getting more revenue coming into the coffers and yet on the other, are claiming figures are showing decrease in Slough and thus holding back money. Very naughty. |

Good points, well put mr hmmmm
I think everyone should watch this doc, its only 30 mins
There's some real eye opener opinions expressed in the interviews.
Although, my advice to anyone planning to watch it would be - do not base your opinion of the immigration situation in the UK entirely on this doc.
There is simply not enough time spent on looking at each area in detail and not enough opposing opinons gathered.
The fact that just one town is featured suggests its own reasons as to why this doc should not be taken as typical of the situation in other towns throughout the uk.
Still saying that, its quite interesting and if anything, makes you want to further question the situation instead of relying on the good old Beeb to uncover the 'truth'. |
