| Hi, general advice is that this is the crappest term to find daily supply work as a lot of year 11 students have left or are about to leave, so schools are more able to cover internally. But perhaps you're arriving in September and then there should be more work, mind you budget cuts are forcing a lot more school to use none teaching staff to cover lessons on a regular basis. Be prepared for students to ignore you and be unnecessarily rude to you if you are doing daily supply (don't even attempt to smile). If you have a contract make it clear that you are not on daily supply. Contract work is definately preferable to daily supply in my opinion (staff will be more supportive if they think you're gunna be around for a bit). As far as teaching agencies are concerned, don't feel you can't use others at the same time (I was using 3 for a while in my first year over here). By the way you can join the National Union of Teachers for free if you don't have UK Qualified teacher status. I've been teaching over here for 4 years, the first year was awful until I found a decent school. I've been at the same one for just over 3 years now and love it. |
