I won't go into a long winded story, but basically Gumtree accepted an advert placed by myself several days ago, & were happy to be paid £5 for their services.(it was an old used car, & we wanted it out of the driveway asap)...BUT, no ad appeared on the site, kept getting messages saying'ad not available', so I have been e-mailing their "helpline"(what a joke!) daily since, all with no reply.(having read thru some of the stories on here, it seems to be the norm to be ignored) Rolling Eyes
Unfortunately for Gumtree, I am a solicitor during the day, & will have no hesitation in reporting their actions(or lack of) to Trading Standards, & dragging their ass through the small claims court for recovery of my money & recompense for my inconvenience & alternative advertising costs. Twisted Evil
From now on, I'll be using AD-TRADER...no problems with them. Wink

Sorry to hear you've had trouble Ripdoff but if you have sent us an email then you will definitely hear from us as soon as we can get to it. We have a slight backlog at the moment so we aren't replying as quickly as we'd normally like to but we are getting there. Thanks for your patience.

Six days to answer an e-mail(although its still not answered) is an absolute joke, I can only assume you're swamped with complaints & don't have the resourses to cope....says a lot for Gumtree management, eh? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Poop-on-a-stick.

First, we get hundreds of whiney "I've been scammed cause I am a thick-o" threads, so GT invests more money and time to try and stop this ... which in turn requires charges. And lo and behold, now we get "I cannot believe I am being asked to pay for this site" whiney threads.

Well, since I am not the person who tried to post an ad that likely violated the ToS (which you undoubtably didn't bother to read when you clicked "Yes, I've read them"), and lost his cash until the admin team get through the dozens of other muppets like you in the line ahead and refunds it in a week or two, I'd say the question should be more who out of the two of us is a thick-o.

Dirty mom...you've clearly no idea why we're unhappy at being ripped off have you?

I posted a fairly simple ad for a car on Gumtree Edinburgh, & paid for the service but the ad did'nt appear, so I would like a refund!...can you understand that??

The very same ad was posted on Gumtree Glasgow & Dundee, & DID appear on the site with no problems whatsoever!!

So feel free to explain the reasoning behind that, since you've got so much to say.....because the ignorant idiots running this show seem unwilling to do so.

If you still 't get your head around it, send me a fiver & I'll sent you nothing in return & see how pleased you'll be about it! Rolling Eyes

I would be interested to know whether the feature ads and bump-up always been part of Gumtree or were they added subsequently. Similarly did Gumtree always have adverts?

Weirdly, I had other things to do that entertain myself with you guys.

However, I am back. Gumtree has had adverts for so long, I think they were there from day one (the reason for the site, I presume). Featured Ads and Bump-ups are a more recent feature, an attempt I presume to both raise some more cash to pay for staff etc, and to try and solve the spamming problems that plauge the ads.

In regards to the "not being happy at being asked to pay" ... it is not a specific comment to any individual, mearly a reflection of the general trend of the posts in the forum. Six months ago it was all about being scammed and demanding more money be spent on staff to stop it, now it's more about the featured ads (and the money they raise to pay for presumably more staff).

In relation to the ad I have never seen - I have never seen a great many things, yet I know them to exist, and can have an understanding of them. Ripdoff commented this:

Ripdoff wrote:

The very same ad was posted on Gumtree Glasgow & Dundee, & DID appear on the site with no problems whatsoever!! ...

As you people appear to all have posted an ad, you would have ticked the "Yes, I've read the ToS" box. Here is an extract from them:

Terms Of Service wrote:
... No duplicate ads:
We only allow 1 ad for a particular item/ job/ flat etc. Please don't post the same ad (even if re-worded!) more than once either in the same category or across multiple categories. If there are a few possible areas for your ad then please choose the most relevant. Any duplicate ads will be removed ...

Since I am sure you wouldn't say "Yes" to something you hadn't done, then I can only assume you possibly overlooked this part of the ToS (The first part). Technically, Ripdoff's ad was a multiple posting, and was likely automatically deleted by a bot as part of an anti-spam routine.

I imagine when the over-worked staff get round to it, after clearing up countless other examples of people not following the ToS and falling foul of the automatic programs, Ripdoff will likely be refunded the cash. Still, these things take longer than they need as people don't read the rules (not yourselves, I am no doubt sure).

And finally, in regards to this:

Quote:
If you still 't get your head around it, send me a fiver & I'll sent you nothing in return & see how pleased you'll be about it!

It really should be worded as:

Quote:
If you still don't get it, how about you send me a fiver in a pink envolope after I have just told you than sending me any cash in the post in a pink envolope means I shall keep it.

It was good of you to go to the trouble of writing a nice long reply, Its just a pity none of it is really relevant, do you seriuosly sit & read through the rules before making a posting?? Shocked ........You need to get yourself a LIFE! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Refund issue now being dealt with thru Paypal........If they don't reply to them, it won't matter cos I'll have my money back!

Its almost worth the fiver to get a laugh at some of the postings on here. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yeah, I can see how things like Terms are not really important. Like banks, and flights, and so on. Rolling Eyes

Always makes me laugh, watching people turn up for an internet-booked flight 5 min late, and trying to get on the plane. "We didn't know we had to be here for 30min" - shame they ticked the "Read the Terms" box when they booked.

Glad to see you're getting your money back at least.

Well, money now refunded through Paypal.

Gumtree did'nt even reply to the claim I raised with Paypal, I suppose that does'nt come as a huge surprise though.

Its just a pity they can't get their finger on the pulse, 'cos it could be a good site if it were run PROPERLY!!

I'll just stick to using freebie ads in future, posted from a different e-mail address of course!! Wink

here you have a site offering a service... willing to take your money but not willing to take the time to answer questions... and when you highlight the problem you are having on their forums you get rude remarks from staff trying to out do each other with rude-ness....dictaitorship any1?

Only because you've tried to do the same to a couple of people who may not be great spellers! Rolling Eyes ......Pity for you that you're not much good at it though, quite frankly, your comments are not worth the time its taking you to write them, you would be of more use to Gumtree's 'customers' if you kept your mouth firmly shut! Wink
