Just moved in with another couple, which is one British Pakistani girl, and one Indian guy.
No issues there.
Except last week they cooked a curry, and ponged the whole house out.
I had washing on the clothes airer in the lounge, and I had to rewash it all.
This was a week ago, and it still smells!
Now I'm of Indian heritage, and grew up in an Indian house, and this has never been an issue for me or my partner (also of Indian heritage).
I don't really want to go to work, and smell like stale curry. Has anyone got hints or tips here? Obviously opening windows and such, but here where there is little wind, we had all the windows and doors open, and the smell simply didn't go away that night, and it was worse by the morning.
We keep our bedroom door closed, and the smell even permeated into there, though not nearly as bad!
The worse thing is that the couple spend their entire lives, other than cooking time, in their room. We have a decent sized lounge that connects to the kitchen - and we can't even sit there, for fear of smelling out our clothes, and my girlfriend's hair!
So the two main issues for us are - we can't utilise the great lounge we have, and we are also scared that the landlord will withhold our bond because he will need to get it professionally cleaned, I'm sure.
Or, am I overreacting? |

1. discuss the issue and concerns with your housemates, hopefully this will solve things.
2. Dry clothes outside, tumble dryer etc. It is not nice to have racks of drying clothes in a shared living area. |

Rob444 that is true, but as I mentioned, the other couple do not spend anytime in the shared living area.
Will have a chat to them though, and hope for the best. |

| if you put charcoal in a dish in the kitchen it should absorb the smell and neutralise it before it goes through the house. failing that ask them to open windows when they are cooking and ask them to eat their meal in the kitchen. it's not too unreasonable in a shared property |

Some people who lived next door to a Pakistani family in my street had to strip the plaster off the walls of their house and redo it all in order to sell it cos the smell of curry had penetrated everything! |
