Hi I am a nurse from Australia and I am coming over to work in the UK for a year. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me some of the best locations to live over there and if anyone knew any decent hospitals I can work in that would be great too?
Thanks Very Happy

Where to live in the UK is an open question.
A lot will depend upon your intests. Do you want a busy city, countryside, beach and sea........?
Personally I would choose Cardiff which has all the above plus some large hospitals so job prospects should be good. The cost of living is also much less than other areas.
Of course there are many other places and I am sure you will get other recommendations!

Hey nursing girl, it seems we are both in the same boat, I'm an occupational therapist moving to the UK in August and don't have a place to live at the moment, with a recruitment agency (your world medical) have been really helpful so far, so I was thinking maybe we could email each other and get to know one another then we may be two strangers together in a huge ass city?

The main thing to decide first is whether you want to come to London or not - most Aussies come here first, but many don't like it. Especially if you are in a relatively low-paid job, which a nurse in London is.

Many choose Edinburgh, and from those I know seem to like it a lot more than London.

Cambridge could be a more different choice - huge hospital there (Addenbrookes) and it is a nice place (still quite expensive to live though!), under an hour by train to London.

Newcastle could also have potential - Geordies (the name for people who live in Newcastle) are renowned for being friendly, and the people I know who have moved there have all had a great time.

So as rob444 says, lots of potential places. A lot will depend on the extent to which you want to come over here and live with and socialise with fellow-Antipodeans (in which case come to London or Edinburgh) or move to a less popular working-holiday destination outside of those areas.

I was mainly thinking areas around the general London area. I know its pretty expensive to live in London so I've been told to go to areas outside of London then you can catch the underground to work and stuff. Are the good areas north or south of the river???

Hey Nikki that sounds really great! I am pretty lost when it comes to moving and living in London so it would be good to chat with someone else in the same boat! my email address is like_a_tiger_purr@hotmail.com. Let me know if you have any new info on good areas to live in the UK??
