hi guyz ,
im preparing to rent a flat in london near to charlton and i was wondering any of you guys know anything about the neighborhood and one other question i had was that , one of the tenants that i was talking with later this day told me that since the contract is to the name of students you dont need to pay for council tax , coz normally students dont pay council tax , SO i got confused and asked myself what if the gov later finds out that im living in a house which im not paying concil tax you know ?!
its a bit complicated , if anyone has an advice either about the area or about the council thing i would be glad to hear !
thanks |

Students are exemempt from council tax. However, if you are not a student then you will have to pay.
You will get a 25% discount if the only non-student.
It is still going to be expensive.
If you share with non-students then the council tax can be split between you all. |

i asked them again they said the same thing , what if tell them it should be written in the contract ?
hows that ?
im still confused coz i asked someone else and he told me that council tax is not your responsibility and its the landlords reponsibility so he has to obtain the money from you to pay since the contract is in charge of students you dont have to pay !
thanks for your reply
does anyone have any other suggestions ? |

The occupier/occupiers are responsible for the council tax. If one student lives in the property with a non student you still have to pay council tax.
Welcome to the real world |
