Dear All,
I bought a clocked car. Unfortunately I learnt how to check the mileage after I got it but the fact that the guy who sold it to me did the clocking is so obvious. The only MOT he supplied is the recent one from April and the mileage is lower than at the prevoius one (I noticed that when I checked the history).
Can you tell me if there is any way I could get my money back? Or is it over after the transction is finished? What if I go to the police, could they do anything?
Waiting for your opinion. Maybe there is someone who was in this kind of situation.
Please let me know. |

Sorry to hear about your experience thorunensis.
I would approach your local citizens advice bureau, or trading standards and see what they say.
If you bought the car from an ad on Gumtree then you should report it to us through the Stay Safe section below and we may be able to help with any investigation that takes place. |

| Hiya did you buy the car private? Did he say it was true mileage? Why didnt you do a £4 HPI check with mileage check? Is the car on a damage list?Never buy a car eithout checking it out 100% you could have an accident write off sitting there could have old finance on it too! If they cant look you in the eye when selling you a car walk away. |

Best thing to do is go to the trading standards in your area. If this was a private sale it is your word against there's unless advertised. If this was a garage sale you have the trading standards on your side. You will get a full refund if from a garage. Go back speak to the person you bought the car from. And maybe they put it right or at least give you a a part refund.
Hope you luck with this. Take's time every option does. |

| it isn't illegal to change the mileage shown on a car but it IS illegal to sell it on without pointing out that it has been done and disclosing the true mileage. |
