It certainly pays to speak the lingo when negotiating / haggling Mel
They dont even try to rip you off if you know the language
One time I got chatting with some Aussie girls in Marrakesh and they were telling me about some lovely shoes they had seen in a shop round the corner from where we were having a coffee , but felt they were wayyyyyyyyyy to expensive .............. I asked them to casually walk past the shop and point them out to me and give me their shoe sizes .......... This done , I went into the shop and got them for a quarter of the price they had already negotiated them down to ............. LOLOLOL.............. This also works very well for me in the Gold Souks too
I have some very beautiful pieces that I have been offered a fortune for should I choose to sell ( which I wont ) |

That's very sweet of you Thally! It's good to see you offer a helping hand to unfortunate tourists
It certainly does help to know the local language... that's one of the downsides of travelling.. getting ripped off by the locals ah well... they could probably use the money |

If you have a black man from Africa and a black man from the Caribbean can one be racist to the other?
I was just reading about some guy who says he was racially discriminated against at work..i figured his employers must have been white..but nope they were black the same as him..only they come from Africa and he comes from the Caribbean
So now i am thinking that if you had an Englishman who worked for a bunch Scottish men or vice versa and they treated him badly..seeing as they are all white men that must be racist to huh?
All seems a tad far fetched to me |
Ammie, the word racism has now grown many limbs. The original penning of the word meant to dislike someone because of their race, which in all reality is a pointless word on Earth as there is only one race as we have not encountered an alien species yet. However the busybodies in society had to 'pigeonhole' everyone, and in doing so, rejected people's freedom of choice to like or dislike others for whatever reason, and they decided to split up the 'human race' into further sub categories, through physical features that had come about through evolution within that climate zone. We're all still humans but that wasn't good enough.
In doing so they opened up Pandora's Box and let out the many beasts that would take away people's liberties and freedoms.
So technically, long gone was the "you don't like people because of this and that, well that's your prerogative" and along came the "if you don't like another person, because of this or that then we will prosecute you" meaning that we have lost our freedom of choice to like and dislike whomever we choose.
The word racism now means anyone who has a problem with someone else. We have a word already for that and it's called 'dislike'. However that word just doesn't fit when someone wants something of a different colour, nationality, culture, so the word racist comes out, far more effective in punishing that person with unfortunate fascistic belief.
A sad world we live in Ammie, where one is now 'racist' if we dislike Pakistanis although Caucasian like you or I or Polish people because they have a different language or your next door neighbour because he called you a c.unt. |

Hence the question mark
A British white employer might discriminate someone who's also white if they come from a different background of white people ie eastern european, I guess its the same for Black races. |

Adding more to that...
Its for example some white English hating a white French person, both are white, yet they hate each other.
I would consider that to be racist, just like i really wouldn't consider a jamican hating an african racist. |

| It's not really racism. Your not prejudice against their race. Just the associations you make with the stereotype of a french person or an eastern european. Just like I dont like greedy fat people or chavs. |

That is true. Its only racist when the race is actually mentioned, for example some guy here by the name Orwellian_Logic, his name almost escapes me once mentioned how he hates Black africans, that would be racism. Hating africans is fine, sure fair enough. But when the actual race is added into the mix, it'll be me like saying i hate white americans, somewhat, racist i believe. |
