I am hoping to move to London in September? When is an appropriate time to look for a flat. Everything posted now seems to be for June. Leaving it until August seems a bit late..
thanks! |

I moved last September (I already lived in London, but the contract end date was the 17th, so I HAD to move then) and started looking around now, but found very few places until mid or late August. Then they all flooded onto the various websites at once, and I was spoilt for choice. By all means look now and you might find somewhere perfect, but there'll be much more choice in 2 months or so. |

If you are looking for a share place, the amount of places on offer more than 1 month from the current date is very small - expect maybe 1 or 2 places at most to come up per week that are suitable and in a place you want to move to.
Looking for somewhere to move in with about 2 weeks to go seemed to work out best for me. |

| I'm in the same position as you. I'm moving to london in october, b ut i currently live in newcastle i really want to be looking next month onwards, as it just seems too late to wait until september/october, especially as i have to arrange to come to london especially just for viewings |

I've found that there are always share places available that are being let by landlords who will, by and large, take anyone.
As such, they may well not be ideal places to live (possibly not ideal flatmates, or overpriced - there will be a reason they have not been taken by someone else) but they are available immediately, and may not be such a bad option to use to get a place down here, spend a few months there, then move into somewhere else. Not a bad fall-back option if all else fails.
Otherwise youth hostels let out rooms at a weekly rate, and you could come down here, stay in them for a while as you start work, whilst looking around for a permanent place.
It is annoying trying to find a share place when you are based miles away...I lined up a few viewings before coming down here and was lucky to get a nice place within 3 days, but I do think I was extremely lucky, and when I was looking recently didn't find anywhere that I liked and where they wanted me |
