Morning all....yeah, someone harping on about biodiesel again I know but it has to be done.
I used to fill up at Central Biofuels in Digbeth but they seem to have shut down, so does any one know of a decent quality biofuel supplier thats not just a couple of pence below pump prices, any where in the W mids?

Here's where it gets even cheaper for you!

The Science behind BioDiesel! (and the reason the biodiesel stationsare all closing!)

Veg Oil!! simple as that!!... Right, now, veg oil is a long-chain hydrocarbon, which has a specific heat of about 10% less than diesel... but a higher ignition point... in short, it works like diesel if u dont mind a bit of power loss...

Now, if you heat that oil first (take used veg oil from a chip pan for example) it's similar to a process known as 'cracking' which reduces he length of the long-chain molecules and increases the thermal outupt (more power)... thats why you shouldnt use the same cooking oil for than 3 times (produces carcinogens not too dis-similar to diesel!)

Finally, add to that 5% methanol by volume (eg 1litre of used veg oil and 50cc of methanol) you have an engine friendly fuel which isnt too thick for the filters and injectors... u still with me?

If you cant find any methanol, all you do is use 20% diesel.... so 1L of used veg oil, 200cc of diesel... thats like £5 diesel to a full tank!!!

AND YOU CAN BUY USED COOKING OIL FROM CHINESE RESTAURANTS FOR £5 FOR 25LITRES!!!!!!!

Its cheap! easy to make at home, safe to handle in the same way as diesel and you dont need to worry about any loss of power!!

DISCLAIMER! Check the state of your engine before using any biodiesels... I take no responsibility. Older engines with ware may have lower compression and not run as efficiently.

can acetone be used instead of methenol? also i been told to steer clear if u run a mk6 transit,fucks em right up,but great if ur running an old diesel..pug 405 perhaps...

Can't use acetone, that'll be sure to screw up the pump and injectors.

Thanks for that Blue Panda..I have the book 'How to make Biodiesel' from LILI in which the process is as you describe but more complicated. Methanol is added as is lye, and a fair amount of equipment is needed, glycerine has to be removed, as does excess lye, methanol etc. and meathanol can be hard to get hold of apparently.
Some of the chemical reactions desribed are a bit nasty without goggles and breathing masks...basically what I am saying is the book makes it sound more complicated than you suggest - is it all necessary?
