I am sure you may have seen this scam in various guises, so please forgive the repetition, but I am very grateful to the warnings I read on here as I was able not to get caught. Just so that everyone knows the new email address (jill.walters30@yahoo.com) and new story these people are using I have copied below my correspondence.

I do not want you to have the feeling that i am asking for money BEFORE you see what you are renting because i know that payment is meant to be done AFTER you have seen the Flat and okay with it.-The reason why your friend have to be receiver is basically to give you the confidence that your money is still within you and to make sure that your money is still safe since your friend is the receiver and not anyone else which him will collect with his valid ID,maybe with a passport or drivers license.

Please,understand that i am NOT asking you to pay me BEFORE you view the flat as payment is done AFTER viewing and Signing of contracts.
I only want to be sure that i am not going to waste my time and i think that with this condition,both of us can be sure we are not wasting our times.Let me know if you are okay with this so that we can proceed.

If I may give a suggestion please.

Considering the high number of scams and the fact that not all people are fully aware of this,
would it really be so difficult for gumtree to require landlords to register properly when using gumtree ?
With "properly" I mean that certain conditions need to be given first befor a offer can be posted.
For example a contact number and an address which are confirmable.
Of course that would take a team to randomly make checks.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I can see, still, very obvios postings are not tracked down and deleted ?
If I report a dodgy posting, I may receive a generic reply but I don't know if actions have been taken or not, no feedback if I wasted my time or not.

Still, scammers wouldn't flood sites like gumtree if the incomming money wouldn't motivate them to continue.
But let's just think for a moment someone would take the money out of your pocket, from your wallet. Would you watch him and accept it ?
No, you wouldn't.

Once the money is transfered the victim has no options to recover it because of a lack of support.
This world is structured the way to support transaction without borders, economy is our real god.
But fraud protection is on third world county level. That reminds me on a child who says: "I want, I want, I want" ... and is not willing to make compromises.

Where are the adults who take responsibility ? ATM we're dealing with children and not with adults.
I don't expect a corrupt system to atempt eradicating corruption. But at least I can express myself on gumtree.

You think I'm too pessimistic ? Then you haven't been screwed backwards and forwards, yet.
Well, seems people can only feel empathy/sympathy when they've been affected - otherwise they don't give a monkey.
