ok, I know this is just an email address this guy's been using and that he could try the same with a totally different one and go undetected, BUT...

this guy tried to buy a laptop off me, that I advertised on gumtree.

he didn't negotiate on the price. he didn't ask to see the pc.
he asked me to send it to him via mail in scotland.

he refused to make a payment into my bank account, and proposed to use paypal. he said even if I do not have a paypal account, if I gave him my address PayPal would deliver the money straight to my home (I haven't used PayPal before, but that sounds like bullshit to me)

then when I set up the PayPal account and told him to make the payment, he sent me 3 fake confirmation emails. I checked the account: no money in it.
the mail said the money would not be transferred into the account until I shipped the item and then email PayPal with the shipping details

I sent those mail to spoof@paypal.com and was confirmed they were not genuine.

so, beware of this guy...or of anybody under any different name, who tries to fool you with the PayPal thing!

What a twat that guy is.. I'm still getting daily scam mails so I've joined this official scambaiting website now... I'm fed up of it so let's see how they like their time being wasted!!!

don't sell/buy anything from this guy
he sends bogus emails from paypal confirming payment etc and it is a load of sh*t
he's just cheated me out of my camera i never received the money
the confirmation emails look totally legit

when I spoke to the "real" paypal today they said I could contact the police
I would never have sent the item first without receiving payment I'm not that stupid, I only did it because of paypal...which I thought was legit

No... you've got me wrong. I've wasn't suggesting you were stupid at all. I have never been scammed but I advertise on GumTree and Loot and each and every day i receive emails trying to scam me. I tend to recognise the scams now. but I have to say that a month or so ago I was ignorant of this sort of things going on. apparently it also goes on on Ebay which I thought was relatively safe!!

I haven't sent my goods anywhere.. but now refuse to deal with people who want me to send goods to Nigeria or the Ivory Cost or Cameroon, or want me to accept payment by Western Union, or third party cheques. I even stopped accepting Paypal now due to the problems you encountered. The only choice I have left is stop stop advertising on this website or accept cash only, in my hands. This will involve meeting the buyer in a neutral location with a friend for safety reasons, etc,etc.

The scammers are quite clever really, a lot of them assume English sounding names so it's difficult to distinguish.

... if you have the address of this guy pass it over to the police straight away... I hope they get the scamming twat!

By the way if you emailed Paypal but need to phone them their phone number in the UK is: 08707 307 191.. they have so many options - press this, press that... just don't press anything and it will eventually go through to an operator...

Anyway I contacted a scambaiting site who are screwing up his email address which cannot be accessed, so if he is waiting for responses to other scams he won't be able to access it. I have also contacted Yahoo Abuse to close down his account. I traced his IP and it says London but it seems that it is being masked....

There seems to be no way to trade on this website. The scammers use every method ot defraud - Paypal. Western Union, Cheques... I guess the only thing we can do is to accept cash only...

I would never have accepted any of those other methods...I have used paypal before and thought it was legit
the emails i was receiving were paypal replicates, there was no way of knowing they were false

anyway, hope he rots in hell

I looked in my email box the other day and realised he had tried to buy from me last month but I'd told him to f off then, but I really want him to try again now!!

LOL probably not 1 guy. This 419 scam (look it up on google) is very common. There's even a website i found which collates all the scams and tries hunting the culprits in Africa (also via Google). But now it's not only Africa, but Eastern Europe, all over.

A paypal email confirmation should not be the only way to check you have reieved funds. I've been using Paypal for years, and i ALWAYS log into my account from the main page (www.paypal.com) and check the amounts my damn self & also if the address has been confirmed. Also it's a good idea to transfer the sums to your bank account. Takes about 7days. Then & ONLY then send products abroad, especially if their not ebay accounts with feedback etc.

On this site, personally it's cash only i'd trust, or western union (as i can't be scammed then, as I'm the 1 going to pick up the cash!, they taking the risk).

I feel sorry for legitimate ppl like you guys who are selling items.
However the other targets of the 419ers, greedy corporate ppl who respond to stupid shit like "i have $20million i need to get out of Nigeria & u can earn 10% simply by giving me your account details", they deserve everything they get. As most of them actually steal from their work & hope the money they recieve will cover it up, then find they been had & can't report it lol.

Just remember if these dudes send out 100 emails and only 1 works out that's big money for very little work.
