Vey good smart arse with regards to your comment below, now try looking to see if your ads have apeared on a daily basis when you do that, your ad will remain on the site but it wont appear on todays listings at least thats whats happening on the Glasgow site.

I take it you cant read very well as i said thats how easy it used to be but now you cannot simply renew your ad that way if you want it to appear each day you need to write a completley new ad.

How hard is it to use the "edit your post" ad and click submit? That's what I do to renew ads.[/quote]

Who is policing the sites, was using casual relationships category and its full of scams and websites selling you offers. Please can gumtree staff rectify this matter because its very annoying and has stopped me and I can imagine otheres from using it. also when you want to report a post you cant please sort this out. thanks

please help make it a cleaner more respectabe site, stop the scum puting all the porn links and pictures on, I offten use gumtree and sometimes serch the adds with my granchildren, and it,s horrible when we open an add ect and find that across the screens, more veting PLEASE. apart from that GUMTREE is great

There are a lot of posts asking how to make the Gumtree better, and a lot of posts saying you are trying your best to keep on top of the scammer and spam posts, in the dating section, for example.

However being a web developer, I know full well how easy it would be to stop this.

All you have to do is make sure that any posts that contain any kind of URL (ie link to sex site in personal ad) don't make it onto the site and just get binned. Easy.

But you don't do this .. which leads me to believe that you ACTUALLY WANT THE SPAM THERE.

I would be very grateful if someone could reply to me and explain why you have been unable/unwilling to dismiss postings with URLS in the personals section.

I fully appreciate that the ability to post a URL is useful in some sections, like for sale etc, but you could easily make the rule about URLS section specific.

So fess up, are you actually getting paid to allow these links on the site, or do you just really not know what you are doing?

It beggars belief that such a post can be submitted. Why don't the Gumtree team read the forum posts for a start, there's enough there to be going on with. I'm again in an e-mail dialog with gumtree idiots who don't know what they are doing. First an ad doesn't appear. Then it does when I complain. then it disappears when I edit it. I then get a complete nonesense e-mail reply when I complain about it disappearing. Then I get a gumtree team e-mail saying it doesn't meet posting rules, when a) it's been passed before by gumtree, b) it disappered 'cos I edited it, not 'cos it failed the posting rules!! I have no idea why Gumtree is on a path to self distruction with totaly incompetent office staff

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before, but what I think would really improve in particular the Friends and Dating section of Gumtree, is this:

When responding to an ad, at present we cannot choose our own 'subject'. It just says "Subject: Your Gumtree ad blah blah blah". The result of this is that, particularly on the dating section and particularly with women, people will be inundated with inappropriate replies - from horny men, for example. The poor girls are then unable to see in advance which emails might be from appropriate people and which from perverts etc. They then fail in their quest to find love online, because they can't be bothered to read the hundreds of replies they get.

I think it would make things a lot easier and better if we could choose what to say in the 'subject' box. That way, women will know to ignore anything that says "You're fit, do you like me" or worse, and bother to read the ones that show some interest and understanding of their advert.

What do you think?

Anything you can do to reduce the confusion on gumtree.com would be good, but THE SINGLE BIGGEST THING WOULD BE TO SET UP A TELEPHONE HELPDESK !!!!!!!!!!!!
At present if you call a directories enquires line you will be directed to us, Gumtree 4x4 Ltd, an independent garage in Sussex, UK, by the lazy operators - we are officially FED UP TO THE BACK TEETH with taking calls from confused, unhappy, frustrated or just plain stupid customers of gumtree.com. We receive between 5 and 20 calls a day at the moment plus various e-mails from all sorts of lost souls including the police! My advice to them all is to ask for their money back and advertise elsewhere.......... If gumtree.com was to become responsible and set up a helpline that opinion might change!

I have really gone off gumtree and have started to look around for other sites to use. Mainly because of how many scammers there are, but secondly because I keep trying to post genuine adverts and I then try to find them and cant. I am not selling my stuff because gumtree aint putting them on.
Also I believe and we all know that if you read an advert in the pet section that says Adopt, its a scam. Gumtree must know this so why dont they delete it before it goes out, also if someone is selling a pedigree puppy for £150 then it is a scam so again why not delete it. Lastly you see these pictures of pups hanging out of baskets, and ones that look like they have been in some sort of photo shoot again 9 times out of 10 are going to be fakes cause they have got them of google search. So why dont you just delete them, if they are real then the real people posting them will have to make sure they take picture of they animals without making it look like a professional has done it.
I am sure I will get a load of ppl having a go at me for this but I used to love coming home and having a browse of gumtree.

You need to cut out all the spammers with links to dating sites etc there has already been someone on this forum saying how easy it is to do yet you dont, which proves you either want these spammers or you are incompetent

When we get errant messages from unhappy gumtree.com customers this is what we now reply:
"I am afraid you have the wrong Gumtree we are Gumtree 4x4 Ltd a 4x4 garage in Sussex and have nothing to do with Gumtree.com.

As gumtree.com never respond my advice is advertise elsewhere…………"

Does anyone at gumtree.com care enough to respond - I doubt it.
