I got an email from somekindofemailx@gmail.com from "Josh".
How do you know its HMC DWP?
Has anyone ever had more than the first email i.e. a follow up to your reply? Or was it simply a one-off spam email (or emails in chris1502's case...) |

just responded (silly me)to request for details on a wedding dress from
somekindofemailx@gmail.com.
Didn't realise it was a scam until I checked it out. Jesse sent this one! This is the second scam I've had on this ad. The other one wanted my paypal number.
What is behind the thinking of the Tax or DWP? |

| OK, now "Frank" at this email address is applying for a job I posted on Gum Tree. I thought something was odd because, although this was a professional position, he sent only the briefest of enquiries. I ran his email address through Google and up came this forum thread. Any more info on this DWP thing?? |

This is what I did today: (read from bottom)
Dear oh dear. Another leech on humanity. (in England, you should write "you", not "You", you tokoloshe).
Why don't you find a proper job - you must get bored of ripping people off. Do something nice for a change, something positive, make someone else happy, not just youself. There are many good people in the world, when you make them smile, you will smile.

Thanks for the mail and for the advice but i just want you to understand that am okay with your asking price but i want you to understand that my customer made it clear to me that he can only make the payment by bank draft cheque and we will wait for the bank draft cheque to be clear in your bank before making any arrangement for the transport and You have to note that the shipping payment will also be added to the actual amount and this will be handled by my shipper so you dont need to worry about the shipping. if you are okay with this arrangement just send me your full details in your next mail..
Name (has to be issue on the cheque):
Address:
City:
State:
Zip Code:
Country
Phone(Home,Mobile,Office):
Last Price:
I wait to read all this from you so that the cheque can be sent down to your destination...
Cheers

New to gumtree and this was one of the first respondents. It started out as a simple enquiry as to whether the item was still available. Then this arrived. I have good instincts for bullsh*t, and this reeks of it! Needless to say, I will not be responding.
**************************
Hi,Thanks for getting back to me,i contacted this ad on Gumtree just to show my interest in buying it,so i will want to know more about it.
I will want to know the recent condition of this item and its total amount.I 'm sending it to someone in West Africa, via Royal Mail International Singed For,but unfortunately I'm not opportune to come get the item myself,so i will really appreciate if you can kindly post the item for me which i will offer you the sum of £30 for postage and packaging of the items Abroad.
I will want us to sincerely deal with each other through PayPal Online Auction, cause i believe its safe for both of us..I will love you to get back to me with all the answers and also PayPal money request of the total amount plus p&p,so payment can be made asap and i can get back to you with the postage address.
I await your quick response |

Just wondering, but rather than moan and groan on here, why dont someone or everyone inundate crimewatch with the same information as the police wont do a thing, if they get enough people asking them to do the same thing, then wont they investigate, and they can find out where these people are and catch them and hopefully stop (for a short time as least) them.
Just an idea...

Them:
210
Me:

So I sent it by recorded delivery, tracker number - BR143452601GB (feel free to check it)
I then forwarded the number to "PayPal" and to them.
The response I got from "PayPal" was very strange indeed.
Dear Me,
We would want you to get back to us with a clear scanned copy of the postage information receipt so that we can get verify vividly regarding the postage tracking number.
We assure you that as soon as we confirm the postage tracking number, your fund will be release to your account with us within the next 24hrs of proper verification
Duly at your service
PayPal Team.
Hmmm....
So I took a photo of the receipt on my phone (at the advice of my lovely scammers) and sent it along.
"PayPal" got back to me, saying;
We assure you that as soon as we confirm the postage tracking number, your fund will be release to your account with us within the next 24hrs of proper verification
Duly at your service
PayPal Team.
I replied that it would take them two minutes to check the tracking number on the Royal Mail website and that if they didn't get back to me within ten, I would contact Manchester Police.
Lo and behold, "Pauline" replies off her own back saying that PayPal has sent her an error E-mail, and that she will get back to me when she knows the issue.
Now this is where it gets really funny.
These were my replies;
Dear Me,
Congratulation !!!!!Your Order has been dispatched for delivery into your PayPal Account address provided and this will be received in a couple of hours. We are very sorry for the late Delivery.
But there is a problem about the payment sent to you, Our Accounting Department has made an error with your payment which means a total of £310.00 GBP was sent to you instead of £210.00 GBP.
The deduction of the extra £100.00 GBP has shown of the buyer's account,You are advised to contact the buyer and settle this issue by refunding the sum of £100.00 GBP before the delivery of the payment into your PayPal account.
We regret to inform you that the payment may not get to your PayPal account address until you settle this possible issue with your buyer.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thanks for your understanding.
Sincerely,

THEN;
Dear Me,
Your Payment was sent through our delivery into your PayPal account and the Payment will be delivered in the next two days which means,You only have 48Hours to refund the balance to the buyer so we won't stop the transfer of the payment in transit into your PayPal account. We have just contacted the buyer to select the preferred method to have the money back. The buyer confirmed that you are requested to send the balance of £100.00 GBP to his Lawyer in Nigeria Using Western Union Money Transfer. If you have any other question feel free to reply.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thanks for your understanding.
Sincerely,
PayPal Team.
And finally;
Them:
Just received email from them now saying an error as occur that they deducted 310 pounds instead of 210..so i have conclude with them that i want the money to be send to my lawyer in west africa and i believe by now they should have contact you with more details.Kindly get back to me when you receive any email from them.
My immediate response was:
Oh, dear! Well not to worry, I'll do that first thing tomorrow (it was about midnight). Goodnight!
Yes, I was dedicated to the bit, but not enough to send 100 pounds today.
The bad news is, they will receive the package today.

HAHAHAHHAHA good going Tash89! that same person longpaulinem@yahoo.co.uk tried to scam me out of my iPhone.
When I got the first email saying that he/she wanted the phone right away i was like wow that was easy! I was however uneasy after an hour or so and wanted to see if this was a scam. So I typed up the email address and added gumtree in google search and sure enough it brought me to this page!
Invaluable insight on how they try to scam. I dont think I would have fallen for it anyway. I may have gone up until the point of giving my paypal email.
I lead the scammer on for about a week....they reali dont give up once you give them a hint that you are going to send money. Absolutely love what you did tho! Well done! |

Enquiring about a Land Rover....
Me: Hi, is the car still available? If so, how many miles has it done?
Scammer:
Hello,
The car is still for sale. The reason wich I want to sell my car is that I just moved back in Germany. I was in United Kingdom in the last year with my job and that`s why i bought a car from United Kingdom.
I bought a family car here (BMW 520 D Avant) and i didn`t pay all the amount. That`s why i decide to sell this car so cheap. I need money to pay my other car before i`ll start to pay extra taxes. I tried to sell it to a local dealer but they told me they can not accept it in Germany because of the right side wheel drive.
The car has all the original Uk documents including the service book. I didn`t registered in Germany when i came back.
The km are real and the car was never been involved in accidents. The interior looks great and also the exterior. The engine it`s perfect and the car has no damages.I`m non smoker and the car looks like a new one.
If you are interested we gonna have a safe deal for both of us. Here is my phone number: 00447040124886 but i don`t think you can call me because i just moved in to a new house and i still have some problems with the phone network.
The price is 3000 pounds.
Please get back to me to explain you more about the transaction.
Thank You !
p.s:the car is home in united kingdom

Hi Marius,
Good to read from you again.
A lil about me : Am a 25years old fashion designer, very friendly and adventurous, I only Drink occasionaly but don't smoke, I am quiet, easy going, fun to be with and open minded.I like to keep the flat clean and tidy and would require the same too from any tenant.I am a christian by religion,my hobbies are Hiking, singing, watching soccer and going to the cinema's.
About the flat : The flat was once a family flat till my old parents acquired a new property in Spain and moved, so i have been left in charge of this flat. It is a 3 bedroom flat like i already told you, and nobody occupies the flat at the moment.
I live in Birmingham and only come around once in a while so as to keep the flat and surroundings clean. Reasons why we want to rent this place out is so that there will be a permanent occupant that will take care of the flat furnitures and keep the surroundings clean in my absence. We just need life in the flat.
At the moment we are looking to rent out just 2 of the rooms while the 3rd will be locked permanently, for my use whenever i come around.
Concerning viewing: I can only travel from Birmingham to attend to serious tenants that are ready to move in and can prove that they can pay for the first months rent and one months deposit, i don't do general viewing. I need to know that you are serious and have the money to pay before i can come down to London.
I have a tight working schedule caused by my upcoming fashion show week, which preparations are on for at the moment with my co-ordinators from New York. You can search the map for that area and what you see in the pictures are what the interior of the flat looks like.
If you feel comfortable with that let me know, if not don't bother to reply so that we won't waste eachothers time.
Thanks and warm regards,
Izabela

This was funniest email today:
Hi Marius,
Since you are ready to view,i will plan my time here and make sure am there before you arrive.
The only thing is that i need double assurance, because i want to avoid traveling from Birmingham to london in vain, i can afford my fare, but i can't afford to waste my time.
My Lawyer will get a contract ready for you to sign if you like to take the room after viewing and the keys will be handed over to you immediately after contract has been signed.
Also, receipt of payment will be issued to you after which you'l have to sign the lease agreement form.
I was discussing with my Lawyer about the idea on how i will be so sure that i will not just waste my time to london without acheiving my the aim and she advised that we can work out something via Western Union Money Transfer.
She said that Western Union Money Transfer can actually hold the money as an evidence and surety that her tenant will pay her at least for the first month and deposit. She gave me an option on what we can do since you have the funds at hand which will be explained below:
PROCEDURE:
1) Transfer the the amount £800 (1 month rent and security deposit) to your friend
Your name (as sender) to your Friend (as Receiver) in London or other parts of UK.
2) Scan & Send a copy of the Western Union Money Transfer transaction receipt as a proof of the transaction or mail me the transaction details. (The money is safe as it is only you that can withdraw since you need a national ID card or International passport)
3) Then, we will meet for viewing.
4) If you decide to take the room, we will go to any local Western Union Money Transfer office pick up the money and pay me. (You don't need to come with cash to view, after viewing we will go together, you will cancel the transfer and withdraw the money to pay me)
5) Keys will be handed over to you after signing the contracts.
I am pretty sure that the transaction at Western Union Money Transfer office will require some charges, i will definitely refund the transaction charges back to you upon viewing and if you don't see what i sent as pictures of my flat to you, you are free to leave without paying me anything.
I only want to be sure that i am not going to waste my time this time around and i think with this condition, both of us can be sure we are not wasting our time.
I will only rely on your honesty that you have made the transaction so that i can reserve the flat for you.
Let me know if you are okay with this so that we can proceed. Thanks so much while i will be waiting to read from you and i am looking forward to meet you and be great friends eventually.
NB: PLS DO NOT MAKE PAYMENT TO ME OR IN MY NAME, WHAT I NEED IS JUST AN EVIDENCE THAT YOU HAVE THE CASH TO PAY ONCE YOU HAVE VIEWED.
I am sorry for the lengthy mail, i only want to explain myself better. I cant receive calls at work so its best you send me a text message.
Warm regards and have a nice day.

next phas is to egt them to work
ask for plans of the place
ask for the tenancy agreement etc etc
ie every minute they are chasing up stuff for you is a minute less scamming |

Is it just me that thinks this is a scam?
Thank For Your interest ,I can say much about myself but I can say a little of what my friends do say about me. I am an easy going, dedicated, honest, intelligent God fearing girl and devoted as well. I'm an open mind Person, I love honest people, and I hate cheating in whatever I saw cos I don't want be cheated as well. It has a Central Air and Heat, refrigerator, dishwasher, dryer, oven, internet,Cable TV,Air conditioner...It also has a garage and I'm ready to accept either monthly or upfront mode of payment..depending on the one you're most comfortable with..Utilities include: power, water, sewer and trash..Your monthly rent already covers utilities so you do not have to pay extra charges for that i`m not renting it because of money but just because i need someone to stay in the House and also from the way you write you seems to be a good tenant I can let the place to you, I Have Attached You The tenancy Form . Fo Fill it and get back to me so we can move to the next step
Thanks.
My reply:
Hi,
We're a bit unsure of what you mean by a tenancy form? Is it just a
preliminary step, it's not a tenancy agreement?
Because we're very reluctant to sign any documents without viewing the
room first.
Sorry if we've misunderstood you, we'll be happy to fill it in if it
means we can then proceed with viewings.
Then I got this!
Am very sorry i have the bad experience in the past . i can't let that happen to me again which i invite a man from Italy to come and view my flat and he use the opportunity to rob my own flat with some other man; and they come with guns and since then i have promise not to invite people to my flat again. that was the instruction giving to me by the police.
This was the email address lio.smith001@gmail.com, let me know what you think?
Thank you! =) |

Hello Ilke,
Thanks for your mail..I'm so glad that you are very much interested in renting my flat.I want to let you know that the flat is available for both short term and long term rent. All the bills are included in the rent .I have some few questions will like to ask you?.
1. Do you have a pet?
2. How many of you are coming to live in my flat?
3. Can you take care of my flat as it is?
4. Can you bring your identity passport when coming for viewing?
5. How many months do you intend to rent and pay for?
6. Do you have references in UK?
I am happy to hear that you are very much interested in my flat and i also hope you are not one of those time wasters. The rent has been confirmed per month and refundable deposit as well to you.I want you to understand that i have had a lot of disappointment in having inviting people in the past and it is sad to confirm on the spot of viewing that 80% of viewer still depend on money that are not visible. Therefore i will appreciate it,if you truly like my property to go ahead with a money transfer of at least a month rent and a security deposit which is £850 GBP to your friend's name as the receiver through a money transfer agent, such as money gram post office. It is a very simple test that you need to do in order to be sure of your finances as some candidate have been producing fake bank statements and pay slip to proof their financial capability of rent my property. This simple test brought up in order to be sure of your financial capability of payment for my flat and i hope you are not one of the time wasters cos i have experience a lot of case where candidate won't be able to pay for their rent after the first 2month while some will be owning 3-5 month rent. Also be cautious of who you drop or show your bank statement to,because it is very risky in doing and the Residential Landlords Association has warned us against this..This simple method does not require any of your details in any form.
The process of making the transfer is stated below so you can be sure that it does not require any of your bank details .
1. Locate the nearest post office shop around you..
2..Pick up the form of transfer and fill in the details which needs to be filled and return back to the post master.Details needed on the form are {sender name;your name and address.} {receiver name and address} the receiver will be your reference or partner's address
3.Return back to the post master with the cash you are transferring to your reference or any partner in united kingdom or reference and wait for the receipt to be returned back to you..
4.Give me a call so i can check it if its truly genuine and available in reference custody....
5.After it has been confirmed on the website, then we can proceed for the viewing and you can as well tell your references or to pick up the money.
Note: I have not told you to send money to me,but which you can transfer the money between you and your reference or any of your friends/partner just for my lawyer to make confirmation if you are presently capable of paying for my rent. After making the transfer through money gram post office..I will refund back to you the cost of transfer then when we meet for viewing and you can then go and pick back your money after the confirmation has been made and pay me in cash ,but make sure you come along with the transfer receipt to know the amount paid for and cost of the transfer so i can refund it back immediately. 07024017637
or send me a text on this number to notify me of the transfer done.0786815192 text only
Regards,
Mrs Lawrence Young |
