| You can't even spell it. I hate that. As an employer that would be really offputting. |

You could try your local jobcenter or connections office and explain that youre interested in doing a mechanics apprenticeship.
They should be able to point you in the right direction.
( I think this works if you are aged between 16-19 )
My son did something similar whilst unemployed he volunteered to go on a works trial and the garage kept in on afterwards |

i also have a good visual memory, even better spelling that many of my english colleagues, and i also know how it feels to read after people that cannot spell.
but i understand the hell of dysgraphia and similar diagnoses as well.
this one may not be the case, or maybe yes. who knows?
to get annoyed is just enough. why to hate, mate?
some jobs do not necessarily need a perfect spelling. and some employers also advertise the equal opportunities... a dysgraphic is not an idiot. |

Plus some people have dyslexia...so I wouldn't start attacking people for a few misspellings, how about correcting them first?
I find it is much more appreciated than straight out abuse.
Plus, at least the guy is looking for work...
But mate, perhaps you should learn English first....? Just a thought....

Who the hell is going to copy and paste their message into Word so that they can run spell check? Its ridiculous. This dude is like 16 and looking for mechanic work. Its absurd to expect him to be a member of the intelligentsia. He's a young guy and probably didnt ace too many classes in school so he's looking for mechanic work because you make a decent amount of money doing that and it doesnt require a university degree. Great. Fucking idiots belittling a kid's spelling.
Seansparco, sorry but I cant help you. |

| By the way, good spelling of "like", Montyzuma. And can't be bothered to use apostrophes? And why all the full stops at the end? An ellipsis is three full stops. No more, no less. |

I have to agree ... spelling mistakes really are unnecessary particularly when applying for a job, or in this case, requesting work.
In these times I don't think anyone can afford to take chances like this. There are so many people applying for the same jobs that you really can't let a small error stand in your way.
You might think that because some types of work don't require you to be able to spell but when an employer is faced with hundreds or thousands of applications for one position, they have to find ways to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Personally, as an employer myself, the occasional spelling or grammatical error I can ignore but something like this - not being able to spell your own job title - is unforgivable.
I don't go for the whole dyslexia thing. I've known lots of genuinely dyslexic people who actually make a huge effort to correct mistakes. I've also known a lot of lazy spellers who jump on the dyslexia bandwagon as an excuse for their incompetence.
To me, if someone really wants a job, they would go out of their way not to make mistakes like this. |

Personally I think you should give the kid a break, after all he is keen to get into work rather than being on the benefit system. How many of you know alls left school being able to write perfect english? Not many I bet...
And just because you know where the spell checker button is on your computer does not mean you know how to spell
Obviously it depends in what field of employment you are in, but I'd much rather employ someone who is competent, capable, reliable and trust worthy than someone who is only able to write bollox on a time sheet... |

Well obviously you wouldn't employ someone just because they can spell! |

You are using your initiative and don't worry about spelling ever - access and opportunity to quality education in this country is unequally distributed. The middle classes think they are smart because they have been schooled, however many are uneducated.
To get a job you need tenacity - don't give up and believe that the whole world will be conspiring at this very moment to give you a job.
Don't bother writing letters - get yourself down to a charity shop and get yourself a nice Napolean Dynamite outfit (suit). Look smart, with a tie, some of the older mechanics will take it that you have traditional respect and they like that.

Then the key is not to take no for an answer - go back the following week and say to the boss, I am really keen, please give me a break to shine some cars, or run errands, just a trial - work for nothing if need be.
You will get a job within a couple of weeks. Then you will be just right for the college course that starts in September - dont worry if you are working for nowt - even if they do not give you a job, do the full time college course, so go there and put your name down - if you do the full time course, then the garage you worked for during the summer may employ you for a couple of days a week to run along side your full time course - if you dont get to be a mechanic, do anything - but get work - employers want lads and lasses who have worked.
Good luck |

| In my country everybody spelling right, when they finish the school. Otherwise they cant finish the school. There are special schools for those people who need special attention, they also spelling right when they finish their course. I learn English 2 years ago and already find myself better than lots of english people. one of my bosses told me when he didnt understand a newspaper: " I'am not so good in English" I asked ok what other language you speek better? he:"I don't speak any languages, but I'am good in boxing" I was shocked. I think everybody should know very well at least their first language. Many foreign people has much better english then english people. Of course I would employ somebody who speek a good english and also an other language rather than somebody who cant speak any language but good in boxing. |

You will find that in England access to good education, or perhaps should I say good schooling, is based around middle class culture in the main. Working class people have been dumbed down for generations to do meaningless work in factories, mills, military, construction and mines for poor pay. Furthermore they have been indoctrinated to accept their lot and place in society. We now need more educated people to compete with the rest of the global knowledge economies - hence the reason for shipping in you clever Poles and Europeans. After one generation, your kids will be on the recieving end of our poor education system that only really benefits the privileged, and you will make up the under class to be exploited and dumbed down.
The fact that I cannot spell is a cultural norm, and has nothing to do with my ability to think, theorise, reflect, construct, analyse, evaluate, critique, comprehend, synthesise and argue. I think grand theory and leave the nit picking to the middle classes, which is about all that most of them can muster as they are schooled but uneducated. |
