Hi,
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the slimy conmeister who failed to inform me, before I signed the lease, that the property was in need of repair, (silly me for not going over every inch with a magnifying glass) oh, and when he asked me if I had any pets, I didn't realise that he was of course, enquiring on behalf of the rampant colony of mice that had also slipped his mind to mention during the viewing....
Yes, he did advertise through Gumtree and, if I have no joy legally, I shall be naming and shaming. Meanwhile, I shall be lodging a complaint with this website and hope that they will no longer allow the lying b*****d to advertise here again and rip off anyone else! |

Hi,
I'm trying to secure accomodation before I arrive in the UK, therefore I'm likely to have provide some kind of desposit via bank transfer.
I was wondering if the UK had some kind of Rental bond agency which can hold Bonds in trust rather then paying directly to the person advertising the room??
Thanks! |

Hi again,
Unfortunately only I have the keys of the flat. I will be willing to meet you, get to know you and show you the flat so you can see what you are renting. The problem is that I've been disappointed several times after scheduling viewings in the past, because the tenants couldn't pay the rent in advance, despite the fact that they've showed me bank statements with larger amounts. Please don't be offended! I am not doubting your capabilities to pay the rent, I am only trying to be sure I will not travel to London for nothing. That's why I will ask for a credit check trough Gumtree.
If we decide to proceed with this transaction, I will have to forward to Gumtree all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away. I need to know your full name, how many people will live in the flat, when do you want to move in and how long are you planning to stay. You will receive a notification from Gumtree shortly after that, together with all the instructions to follow. Don't worry, I will pay the fees. Looking forward to hear from you !
Best regards |

It's best to try to reserve in person (after inspection of premises and area)
Try not to part with money until you have a contract or something in writing from your agency/landlord. Check and see if your agency/landlord is under an umbrella group so you have extra comeback with issues. Where possible try to talk to a local (or a friend) in the area and see if this area will suit your needs. Most importantly check the internet for reports on the agency/landlord you are dealing with (Google them)
