| hi thought i would add another scammer,this person repiled to ad i had placed for a rented house,said he had one in manchester then one in preston could not give me the address of the property in preston,the property in manchester was a bookshop,wanted me to send money like every one else to a freind by nothen western or giro bank,told me his daughter deid in child birth,so i could not veiw the house until he had seen prove i could pay,how sick some people are,and there are still trying to get me to send money,the email of this person is ethelpegler@yahoo.com ,ethelpegler@gmail, |

Hi, has anyone used the property agent Werentflats?
I'm looking at this place in Bloomsbury and they said I could have it in September, provided I hand in a 2 weeks worth of rent (which sounds too little to be true?) as holding deposit and sign a pre-let agreement, which states nothing about the room, the bills, the rent.
Then come back in Sept and sign the real contract, pay the deposit, pay the agent etcetc. I asked the agent to revise the pre-let contract but now he's saying he's got no time for all this and he's busy handling the people who are willing to just pay the deposit.
Also, I can't sign the contract now because apparently they do not know which exact lot they are giving me this Sept, they can only promise me the room of the same size and condition in that stretch of buildings (I've seen the room) They haven't got any credentials on their website and I've not really seen or heard of them around.
Sounds sketchy? Or am I being overly paranoid? |

i recieved this guys first e-mail and started looking for similarites through google, with the address i got this forum. And with the advert i got another.
Here's the reply from him:

So i can be sure of that look how we can do: You make the payment from your name and address to your best friend name and address in UK using MoneyGram for 2 months rent that means 680 GBP and send me the scanned receipt so i can see if the money is available. As soon as I see the scanned receipt that you have made the payment, I will come in UK and you will see the flat and maybe rent it. After that, we will go together at the MoneyGram office and you will take the money back and pay me.So all you have to do is to find a MoneyGram office and wire 680 GBP from your name to your friend name and send the scanned receipt.I am asking you this to be sure that I do not come in UK for nothing. I posted a wanted ad for an apartment and could not believe every single one that replied to me was a scammer!! Are there no decent people left in the world anymore?? And do they really think we are that stupid???
Examples are as follows:

do a thing, I guess you will understand this. It's in the policy my Lawyer has told me and i wish

You will go to the nearest WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER around
you, Send to someone you trust or someone you trust send to you the

I know it's a scam because funnily enough she emailed me earlier in the year under the guise of Lucie Vinze with the same pictures but this time they were for a house in NW London near Northwick Park Hospital! It must have wheels!
I think Lucie Vinze is probably long gone by now as an alias, but her story was she lives in Birmingham and works in fashion and spends a lot of time in New York. Parents have moved to Spain and she's been left with the house and just hates to see it unlived in and getting dirty. How does an unlived in house get dirty huh?! Needs proof before coming to show me the flat... you know the drill.
I admit, I nearly fell for it, because I was really needing a place to say, but thankfully logic won out. |

Emailing under levivian004@hotmail.com and princessvivian004@gmail.com and offering a flatshare at 43 Lisle Street, Westminster, London WC4H 9BE (CENTRAL LONDON) for £380pcm. Address doesn't even come up on google. She is probably spamming anyone looking as my ad is for East London so if she was genuine, she wouldn't be messaging.
No mention of Moneygram or WU yet, but wants me to reply so she can proceed in my rent. Her English is decidedly broken in places for a native speaker - she's born in Australia - and just an odd email overall. |

Actually, in defence of gumtree I have been contacted by someone who does appear to be genuine, so yes, it can happen.
As long as people keep falling for it, then yes we are that stupid and they will try it again and again.
Can't believe the Molly Swanson alias is still about... she also emailed me earlier this year with a flat in Bayswater for just under £400pcm (address was for a business and not a residential property!) and she was really wierd. Getting all gushy about my moving in and how we're gonna be great friends and get on like sisters and hang out and all that... that would make me run a mile even if the old "my lawyer has advised me to see proof of your funds..." lines! |

I just saw an ad for a flat and called the number, it is a private landlord and he told me he lives in a different part of london so he is quite happy to come show it to me but after the showing he will need a definite answer and if we say yes we have to give him a week's rent as a holding deposit, which is NOT refundable in case the references are not ok.
Don't feel confortable with this to be honest...giving money to someone who I have seen only once, and with no agency behind it.. opinions? |

Hi, I hope you have not agreed to this. I used to rent from this agency and they are real liars. Do NOT believe a word what they say about the flat as they will say things that you want to hear and you will found out this only once you have signed. If you decided to go ahead, have the pre-letting contract to state EVERYTHING in smallest detail. And be aware that they will keep your deposit if you fail your credit check. And they fail to quote you that their prices do not include VAT, you will find this out only after you have already paid your deposit and there will be other additional charges. The 3rd party "impartial inventory" that you must pay is actually conducted by someone who seem to have the same address as the agency itself, funny ha?

yes, it's a fact: if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
her email adres is elizerbethy_09@yahoo.com, she is definately foreign (no offense but her spelling and grammer could do with a bit of freshing up),
and lo and behold after three emails back and fort she wanted money send by moneygram before we could go and view the flat.
be aware!! she emailed us saying she also has a flat for rent in chelsea;
Radnor Walk,Chelsea,London SW3 4BP
she signs the emails with "Regards
Mr & Mrs Elizerbet"
so be aware!!
also, the ad we responded to this afternoon has already magically disappeared and we haven't even seen it... go figure!! |

If you are a landlord please be aware of fake tenants. I was the victim of a possible tenant fortunately I realised before I lost money. But I did receive 3 months of nasty untraceable phone calls.

Gumtree are piss takers : they don't care who is spamming and who is scamming: I know many poor poor get robbed of their money because of this website. Even when you report an ad they don't care. traffic and more clicks is their only concern |

It seems that Nataha has managed to acquire more property. This time in Upper Hand walk in Islington. It seems like she's been caught out before by scammers or time wasters because she's now asking for 2 months rent on top of the deposit.
