I live in a Victorian conversion and I think there is no or hardly any soundproofing in the ceiling. My upstairs neighbours living room is right above my bedroom so its very noisy.

Can anyone recommend a good soundproofing company in London?

Also could you please let me know how effictive is a soundproofed ceiling in cases like this.

Thanks!

hi

its a specilized job basically for sound insulation its all about weight

they might have to fit a false ceiling below the existing one with sound insulation above it relocating any lights ect ect

check your local yellow pages and give some of the companies the size of the room and they might be able to give you a ball park figure

or else they should give you a free quote get a couple of them if you can

depending on what they say you can then go to a local joiner and ask him how much he would take to do the same kind of work.

haev the people above got parquet flooring or floorboards ie no carpet?

They have laminate flooring or something like that. But its not just that. I can hear every word they are saying. Apparently in those victorian houses which was converted before 1992 (i think) they didnt use any soundproofing material. Now I dont know whether this is true or not but I can definitely hear every word my neighbour is saying.

yep i know what you mean

laminate flooring is the wost

few years ago i stayed for a short while in a flat

folks above had laminate
they dropped a coin on the floor and i could head the thing going rounf and round and round

usually its just an air space between the floors you might be able to do something with expanding foam but if you dont know what you are doing you could cause a lot of damage

It is a bit of a problem now. For the soundproofing to be really effective the party floor would need to be lifted as well to install part of the system.
And that might not be easy to achieve as :firstly , the upstairs neighbours probably won`t participate in the cost of changing the floor. Which makes it even more expensive for you.

Secondly. Once you soundproof one area, the sound will travel through the weakes point in the room or house. This is called Flanking transmission. If you have dividing partition walls, they would need to be insulated as well.

What we normally use for our customers is system manufactured by one of the best uk companies. That total cost of installation is quite expensive. You would be looking at around 150-180 pounds per sqm.
There are many factors that will increase the price or lower it.

However, I would suggest to do at least half of the system and do it from your side of the property. This will certainly improve on the quality of living.

P.S email me if you need more information.
