I HAVE HEARD PEOPLE SAY THINGS LIKE THAT ABOUT PEOPLE ON BENEFITS. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN ON BENEFITS FOR A FEW YEARS AS MY HUSBAND LEFT ME WITH THE KIDS.I TRIED TO GO BACK TO WORK,BUT THERE IS NOT MUCH HELP FOR SINGLE MOTHERS, AND CHILD MINDERS DO NOT WANT TO TAKE CHILDREN OVER 5 SO HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO LEAVE THEM. MY CHILDREN ARE ALOT OLDER NOW, A COUPLE OF THEM HAVE EVEN LEFT HOME. SO I DECIDED TO GO BACK TO WORK AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME I HAVE STARTED UP A BUSINESS FROM HOME. ITS JUST TAKING OFF,HAVE A FEW CUSTOMERS ALREADY, AND LIFE IS GETTING BETTER FINALLY. YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED HOW DIFFERENTLY PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU WHEN YOU TELL THEM YOU HAVE YOUR OWN BUSINESS.NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE THE DAY WHEN PEOPLE STOPPED LOOKING DOWN AT ME FOR BEING A SINGLE MOTHER. IT IS FINALLY HERE. TO ALL YOU SINGLE MOTHERS, HANG IN THERE, IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU IF YOU JUST KEEP GOING. GOOD LUCK IN ALL YOU DO

Dont worry about what people think as its very easy to point a finger when your all nice and secure in a good safe job . I have always worked but had to stop recently due to bad health (2 heart attacks) so now i,m on benefits and i do know the hardships a single mother can go through and most of the jobs wont even pay the childminding fees and there is no point whatsoever in taking them to end up worse off so dont worry about other people just take care of yourself and your family cos your as good as anyone else .

I,m a 62 year old guy by the way but i have a couple of friends that are single mums

There should be more help for the unemployed, not more prejudice, and certainly not prejudice between unemployed people who rest their sense of self-esteem on winning tabloid arguments. Not many men are going to be able to relate to the responsibilities of being a single mum, so it's not fair to judge, neither is it fair to blame bored young men for causing trouble when there is nothing to do but be discriminated against for their background, and not their skills.

As a white, able boded mid-twenties male, I feel as if all the jobs vanished overnight somewhere. I can't even get work down Burger King. You don't need a diploma in washing up to get a job in a kitchen. Being on benefits is like being told to put up and just fuck off. I rarely see women signing on or anything but I see plenty of them on the other side of the desk; no one's allowed to say it, but it's true. Women get the advantage.

I don't understand why their isn't more help. When I went in the jobcentre to do a random jobsearch, I found 26,000 vacancies in bristol. I did a broader search, and found the same number of vacancies. So I did a nationwide and guess what. 26,000 jobcentre vacancies against - how many unemployed now? 2.5 million? 3 million? I tried the leaflets for courses in the desk at the front and most of the schemes had been dissolved, some of them years ago. They just don't bother. All these schemes are such fob offs anyway.

We're one of the richest countries in the world, it's not like we're going to go broke with this 'recession' B.S. get off your arse, write to your MP and tell them to get their act together. If you sit around trying to work out which category of unemployed people is mostly to blame then you'll get nowhere. Look, the postmen are on strike again, they can because they look out for each other, there's no reason millions of unemployed british people can't do the same about it.

Bottom line is, if you have paid enough into the system then there is no harm in claiming back some if and when you need to. It is when you have not paid anything or enough in, thats when it gets out of hand.

Our benefit system was implemented to help, it's now used and abused. Not just BY the British but more unbelievably immigrants also. How and why does anyone justify being here even a few years as justification of qualifying for benefits? It beggars belief.

The benefits might be meagre, but anyone who is claiming would need to have paid into the system for quite along time to even get close to being reaslistically or justifiably able to claim with a clear conscience.

Young unmarried mothers? When and how did they ever begin to start paying into the system?

I am fed up with all those making out us benefit claimers are layabouts or frauds.

I am being forced back into work against medical advice because the government is stopping Incapacity, I cannot work full time but will have to so I can cover all my bills/rent etc.

I have genuine reasons for being on the benefit in the first place. I do not see why people have to tar everyone with the same brush.

At the end of the day if you have paid into the system and can honestly say you have done your bit then there is no harm. If you have not paid anything into the system then how can it be seen as anything else apart from taking what is not yours.

People should not tar everyone with the same brush, far from it. There are many genuine claimers. I am one of those people who take umbridge to people who take from the get go and cannot justify it.

This country has great systems in place. It is just a pity they are abused so readily. But then again like anything else in this country, this is one easy arsed country for where people come to from far and wide purely because of it's easiness. And that is not just our own scroungers.

Take comfort if you are claiming and you can justify it.
Have a good hard think if you cannot. Try to understand that the money paid in is from people who have worked hard. The money does not grow on trees or magically appears as if from nowhere. The workforce, albeit depleated these days has paid that money in, so before taking it, have a think, do I deserve this? Can I really justify taking this handout?

With respect though, I truly wish you the best.

Hello Again,

I thought I'd check up on how the topic was doing as im the one who started it!

Well I certainly caused a debate n a half didnt I?!! I didnt come back on here for a while because of all the negative comments i recieved but having read through them all, there are some really nice ones, so i'd like to thank the more open minded people for their kind words.
Your right, i wasn't looking for advice OR sympathy, i wasn't sitting on my arse doing nothing, i WAS actively looking for work, i DONT think "oh poor me", i just wanted peoples opinions and everyones entitled to them but some were uncalled for....

I am not lazy, I DID NOT "trap" my ex partner as it was HIS IDEA to have the baby in the first place, she was planned and very much wanted ...by me at least, yes i accept it takes two to make a baby but i am not taking the responsibility for him leaving us for another woman who IS a slut as she has 4 kids all to different dads cos SHE doesnt want to work and has boasted about getting pregnant due to not wanting to work. Anyway, thts another "sob story" which i wont bore all those hard-working, do-gooders with.

Perhaps those who slagged me off should re-read my story, i felt strongly about this particular subject and wondered what others thought, maybe im not entitled to an opinion as im "scum" and people on benefit shouldn't be allowed to "go on holidays" or "have nights out".
Whilst i don't agree with people staying on benefits out of sheer laziness or because they feel better off, like i said in my original post (!), i think they should at least be allowed some pleasures in life!

As it happens iv since got a job as a Carer for the elderly with Dementia/Alzhiemers (dont know if i spelt that right! lol You know what i mean though!) as i did a Care Training Course with a Healthcare Agency, who never got back to me after they trained me...weird considering they paid all that money for me to learn, uh oh..am at risk of starting another debate CITY PLUMBER (!), so i therefore "got off my arse" and sent my CV to literally EVERY Care Home in my area and it paid off because thats how i got my current job! Very Happy So i am officially a working class citizen, im not bragging as this would be classed as boasting and i would therefore "deserve" another roasting from those who have previously torn into me.

So i thought id give those who check on this an update, thanks for the comments, even the horrid ones, its bn.....interesting and humbling!

Take care

Jx

maybe im cold hearted, but i find it difficult to believe that someone cant get a job (other than genuinely disabled people)

There are tons of jobs out there, and surely even something low paid and temporary is better than being unemployed?

I understand where your coming from but believe me, its hard when employers want you to be flexible regarding hours and you cant because you have a child/children and you have no family friends to count on!!! My late Mum couldn't get a job because she was english let alone the fact that she didnt want someone else bringing me up while she went to work and hadnt worked for 20 yrs by the time she went job seeking!! As it happened she had arthritis anyway and couldnt work.
Luckily for me my luck has changed and i have met someone who is willing to look after my wee girl while i earn a crust, iv been made out to be lazy and im nothing of the sort, i like working and will work when i can! Being on benefit IS NOT fun, your put in a certain category never mind that your always skint and can't afford nice things. I hated it and im soooo glad that i have finally found a job!
And exuse me but aren't "tons of jobs out there" I have a look on the job centre EVERYDAY and theres nothing suited to my quals.

been reading a lot about peoples mixed reactions about people living on benifits!!

Im gonna voice out my anger right now!! This is the first time I have ever done this!!

I was working from the age of 16 to the age of 19 and half ( so say 20) There are people out there that never tried! I even tried university and college courses and i got a some based training qualifications too!

How is this for a story - I was raped x6 by several other people tried to kill myself through alcohol, cocaine and other upteen different things, been!
been in and out of psychiatric wards to get sorted out and i was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress with an emotional unstable personality disorder! Thats on record and im on heavy medication for it!

I am fucked if you like for life! There is no way I will be getting a job in the future with my medical record -I have a long way to go untill i get healed and sorted out!

My past is not an excuse to sit my on my ass and not work! I dont have the mental capacity nor am I emotionally ready to take on work! I have my head and my heart to heal!

I Cant understand why people have this attitude that people on benifits shouldnt have the money to go on holidays, to go on nights out!!!??!!! THE FUCKING JUNKY CHAV TYPES DONT DESERVE IT!!!!

I went on holiday whilst I was on benifits - why? After what ive been going through - I deserved it! Other wise if none of this happened, I would be happy to work my ass off for it and study at uni to better myself and get what i want from life! law and society done fuck all to prevent what ive gone through because no one wants to get involved with peoples problems these days unless its about some poor bastard thats on the brew and they start getting snippy about it! WELL FUCK YOU ALL!! - people see someone getting as much as stabbed and theyre like "oooh i didnt see that, Im not getting involved!" britain is so up its own arse and they enjoy making peoples lives around them so fucking misserable its unreal!!
why dont you people leave us genuine people I.E ME who arent well and let us try and make the best out of our lives as possible!! If we go on holiday and stuff thats our fucking business!! if we want to go out a few tipples let us be!!

christ there are soldiers coming from afgahnistan all wounded and shell shocked and some of them i know are on the sick because of that! its fucking disgusting how they get treated as well!! DOESNT HE DESERVE A A FEW DRINKS AFTER WHAT HES DOING FOR OUR COUNTRY?? WELL SORRY " ooops-TRY" SO YOU STUPID NARROWMINDED FUCKING ASSHOLES WHO SIT THERE IN THEIR OWN WEE BUBBLES AND DONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON IN OTHER PEOPLES LIVES - FUCK OFF IS WHAT I SAY! IM NOT GONNA SIT BACK AND GOO OOHH POOR HARD WORKING MAN HE PAID OUR TAX MONEY TO PAY FOR OUR HOLIDAY AND KEEP US ABOVE WATER - I THANK THE GOOD HONEST WORKERS BUT THE ONES THAT DO WORK AND HAVE SO CALLED "HIGH ALL MIGHTY OPINIONS" ABOUT US "BENIFIT SCROUNGERS" KEEP YOUR SNOTTY NOSES OUT OF OUR BUSINESS!! PICK ON THE CHAVS IF YOUVE GOT BALLS NOT US!!
FUCKING ASSHOLES
