I want to home school my daughter shes coming up to two, and I am just looking at my options as I will have to start putting her name down for nurseries soon.

Would anyone be willing to meet with me to talk me through some of what I would need to know, and tell me their positive side of homeschooling?

Cheryl

I am a trained teacher living in North London, interested in supporting families who are keen to home school their children. I have previous experience of this outside of London, and would like to offer advice and experience where needed.
Please email me at alicebd123@googlemail.com if you are interested.
Alice.

Hi Layla
Just thought I'd answer you. Firstly go to Education Otherwise for info or do a Google searcg for Home Education but searsh UK sites only. You'll find lots of sites and groups. Also Yahoo has a number of groups to join some by area. As you are nearly 16 have you thought about going to college instead of school? Home ed is not expesive depending on how it is done. If you want to do exams you will have to pay or do them at college. Then you will also need some GCSE textbooks and workbooks. National curricullum is online. Speak to you parents and let them reearch these sites or speak to a local contact from Education Otherwise. You can contact them via their site.

Some people don't do exams but learn what interest them and do projects on a topic or just find out what htey need through the web or libraries. Some go on to work experience and then do a NVQ or similar. Others do none of those and later apply direct to uni once they are over 19, explaining they are home ed. Think about what you want and how you want to do it and mainly let your parents/carers know how you feel.
xx Very Happy

Hi there,

Following recent media interest, I am doing some research into home schooling in the UK for a documentary and photo story I'm working on.

I am interested in meeting families who home educate their children, as well as anyone who was educated in this way. I would like to know more about the advantages, challenges and disadvantages that families or individuals experience, as a result of home education. Hearing more about the factors which lead to this choice of schooling are also of great interest.

Please contact me at seefortyone@gmail.com and have a look at my website www.seefortyone.com, if you are able to share your experiences on this subject.

At this point I am particularly keen on meeting London based families, but would also be very grateful to hear from families and individuals who are not London based.

With Many Thanks

Anthony

Hi, I'm an American mom & have been homeschooling my kids since moving to London last fall. Does anyone know if I need to register our children through the a UK education department, or through the US Embassy? I want to be in compliance with whatever the regulations are for an American homeschooling family who has resident status. I understand the process/laws are strict for British families who choose to homeschool, but don't know how that extends to expats. Thanks for your help.

I am going through exactly this situation now. How did you get on? Is anyone else in a similar situation?
