The reason these scam ads stay around as long as they do is because certain moderators are too busy looking for the opportunity to express their ill informed opinions to take notice the FIRST time a complaint is posted.
Thanks for standing up and shouting to be noticed jamiewu32, what a shame the mods didn't act the first time you posted. |

I don't think.jamiewu's posts demonstrate any lack of understanding.
He's only doing what he believes to be right.
Informing gumtree users that these ads he's posted about are
potentially fraudulent.
I've looked at a few personally and I would say most are fraudulent
as they are either pyramid scams in desguise( work from home jobs)
or scams that involve the use of money transfer services. |

jamie is a great guy and does some sterling work for gumtree
i wasnt referring to him
most of what jamie posts are not pyramid scams
but fake jobs scams requiring an upfront payment |

I wonder how he finds out these jobs are scams in the first place? |

Afer a while you get to know the format
the people doing these scam rarely have english as their forst language and tend to follow set scripts, if you get them off the script the standard of english falls away.
this is not to say , of course that english peeps dont scam.
search on gumtree for the latest mobile nokia n98 or similar
and you wrer getting pages of chinese scammers
At the moment they are getting pounded by cameroon pet scams.
have a look at london dogs if you see a pict of the cutest puppy in the world with no price or free to a good home or £200 or under it is 99% a scam.
email them for more info (from a new email address)
and you'll get a standard speil, sometimes they hide their location but you can cut and paste the header into spam email locator and they are all cameroon, i suspect butr cant confirm its one team of lads inan internet cafe there.
sometimes you;ll see picts of the same dogs or them all cropped to the same dimensions. they want money by western union to ship the dogs to you. the old ive been moved to another city/country ploy.
i tried a couple, got on the chat agreed the money, told them i want to barbeque the dogs and they never notice, thei english id pretty basic although better than my cameroonian. |
