Has anybody participated in the SWAP Program in England? If so, do you recommend it? I'm living in Canada now, but plan on moving to London in the summer, but I don't know if I should do it on my own, or use SWAP.
Thanks |

Im a Canadian who participated in SWAP (still in London) and Id say that it is definitely worth it. Once you get to britain SWAP is called BUNAC and is full of Americans, Aussies, Kewis, South Africans, and people from other countries as well.
I was going to do it on my own but followed the advice of a friend and it hasnt let me down. Theres many things you need to learn when you get to london with regards to accomodation, travel, work, etc.. that SWAP pays for itself ten fold. Opening up a bank account is nearly impossible for foreigners, but SWAP has an agreement with NATWEST that allows you to get one open ASAP. The BUNAC office that SWAP participants use is very handy for meeting other travellers and finding possible flatmates. Its a great way to network once you arrive. feel free to ask me any questions.

Hi Phil
How long does it take for people to find work generally?
What kind of work are you doing? Was the resource centre at BUNAC helpful in terms of looking for work? That's my other main concern! I'm hoping to find some temp. work when I get over to London.
Thanks
