I was scammed on here by an old man and woman believe it or not. They took £600 holding deposit for a flat but continued to advertise the property and set up viewings and now wont give me my money back. Get this.....Gumtree are allowing him to continue to advertise . I mean what the hell is going on????? Im so angry. I reported this ad days ago and put a warning on advising people of the situation so someone else doesnt get caught out like i did and get this.......My ad was removed and his is still on .....Infact he has posted a new one. |

Im not sure if gumtree check this but wanted to thank them for removing the ads of the guy who scammed me for hundreds and hopefully stopping him from doing it to others. No doubt he will try and change his ip address of use a false email account to repost but I will just continue to report him.
Thanks Gumtree |

How did you pay your holdong deposit ?
Did you meet face to face ?
Does it say on your agreement that the deposit is non-refundable ? |

We paid the deposit part cash and part bank transfer. We met face to face and viewed the property. The landlord gave us a receipt for the £200 cash and says on it damage deposit with £400 to follow which we done via bank transfer from our bank account to his bank account. This was after he said he hadnt received the cheque..Luckily we managed to cancel the £400 cheque otherwise he would have had £1000 instead of £600. It was a verbal agreement and no contract was ever signed although he did sign his receipt. I have never seen the contract never mind given the chance to sign one as he decided to continue advertising the property and not give us our money back.I have text and email correspondence from him telling me to rest assure the property was ours and would initiate the lease once the cash hit his account. What a freakin joke that was.
I am very guilty of being too trusting and naive thinking it would all be ok as we met them face to face and they are pensioners. Hard lesson to learn I have to say. |
