Has anyone found an ideal/perfect job using the Gumtree website?
If so, please let the world know here. I'm interested in finding out how good the site is for finding work. |

YES!
not only scammers are advertising here.
also genuine employers do so. well, maybe less frequently, but they do.
i found one 10 months ago.
never dreamed about such a great opportunity i met here.
maybe just lucky.
but certainly YES
i will not give any details, but it is not about mlm or in any bussiness. i am getting regular monthly salary, and after 1 year it will rise up a bit. |

Even basic details - ie type of role, company it is with, industry it is in? |

Ok, thanks for that, it's good to know there's one out there that's not a scam.
No chance I could get the name of the agency/company you're employed through could I? A payrise after one year seems like a pretty good deal! |

unfortunately, we are full in staff at the moment
but they advertise here from time to time... some people are going, new need to be taken...
if you are into this industry, just watch the security section and you may be successful. who knows?
(it is a great place with wonderful pay rates i assure you. in some moments i still cannot believe i got there) |

ps: just because there are people mostly with negative experiences here on this forum, it does not mean that genuine employers do not advertise here.
those successful ones just do not come here that much.
problems make people to ask and look for help. HERE on this forum.
also: there may be less genuine offers than repetitive scams or non-sense ads here. and all this in average looks rather negative than positive...
but you can be sure that good stories were/are being made thanks to gumtree. |

I know there are quite a few legit job offers here, and was hoping to get a lot more of people's examples of these to try and show the good side of using Gumtree to find work, as the forums seem to be a lot more negative than they should be.
I'm not in the security game, and will probably be leaving the country in a few months, but thanks for the advice. |

Hello,
I also found a job through this site,
it's just a simple job and certainly under my qualifications (I am not saying this in order to suggest something bad or anything about my current job, if you know what I mean... I am just saying that I have an MA degree and at the moment I have a job that could be done by anyone who is not even educated to a high-school standard...), anyway, since I lost my job half a year ago no agency could help me I started applying for jobs here, and yes, I found one, and I am actually grateful to my current employer that she gave me the position, because otherwise, I would still be jobless... From time to time she keeps telling me that I should find another job, something better for me... Hehe, funny, but true.
It was advertised directly by the company.
Don't give up, normal people advertise here, too. |

| The last company I worked for always posted on Gumtree for retail cosmetics/skincare sales positions or beauty therapist positions. |

Ive recruited on gumtree for sales roles, and ive found it can be brilliant for people looking for work, as long as they are willing to put the time in, you dont lose much (a few minutes) to apply to everything, even if its just a "sorry, no role".
Ive had success and failure with it, so its a double sided sword. Most of the applicants ive had, were brillliant, and have gone on to earn good money, but when i was advertising for 10 roles, i got 4 applicants (3 were good) which just doesnt fill the requirements.
Probably because it was commission based, but doesnt mean you cant make money, you just have to work hard for it. |

hi everyone, i found a cleaning job when i advertised under the work wanted section, its a little cleaning company where the husband and wife run it, ive been there for 8 months now and i love it, it does pay to be persistent and to keep renewing your ad, becuase it does work.
the pay isnt great but its nmw (national minimum wage) and is all above board, ie payslips, wages into bank, etc.
keep trying people youll get there |

Before I worked for Gumtree, I got my first job in London as a data capturer from Gumtree. I ended up as the head of Visual Communications at their South African head office 3 years later!
And when I decided to come back to London, I was in my first job as a New Media Manager two weeks after landing, which I found in (you guessed it!) Gumtree!
I totally believe in the power of the site and is why I love working for it! |

So there's definitely a lot of good stories out there about both finding and advertising work on Gumtree.
My 'story' is an interesting one, which is why I was keen to see what kind of experiences everyone else was having/has had.
On first arriving in London, I had unknowingly contacted a "Mystery Shopper" scammer whose job sounded too good to be true (After not having read the safety tips - my fault, no-one else's) who decided he'd apply for a 2000 GBP loan using my details (that I had unwittingly sent him as part of my c.v).
The only way I found out that he'd applied for the loan was because I got a phone call from a bank who I don't bank with asking me about what assets I owned, where I lived, how long I had lived in London, etc...the poor call centre girl on the other end of the phone was wondering why she'd called me as she was asking the questions, and I was equally curious, as I owned no assets, had just relocated to another address, and had definitely not applied for a loan....I asked which address had been used to apply for the loan, and it was the one I had given to the scammer, not the one where I was living at the time....so, it seems as though the scammer must have put my phone number on the loan application, instead of his own, presumably by accident....VERY LUCKY! I told the girl that I had not applied for a loan, and she mentioned that this kind of thing did happen from time to time, and terminated the loan application for me straight away.
Anyhow, I continued to look for work on Gumtree and at least 10 other sites which I thought I'd have a better chance of finding work through than Gumtree at the time.
Time went by and I thought I'd have to head home (to Australia for those wondering) due to lack of cash, when out of nowhere an agency that I had sent my details to via Gumtree contacted me and set me up in a job with a large electronics company for about 6 weeks. The job wasn't the greatest, but it was something, and I was glad I had used Gumtree to search for work. I'm now in a role where I have quite a big interest in the happenings on the Gumtree website.
So my experience with Gumtree has ended up being a great, working-holiday saving one, although a bit iffy at first. I guess the main thing is to remain aware of the fact that scammers can, and do use the site (and presumably other similar sites as well) to dupe people out of cash, personal details, etc.
I also know that Gumtree do work very hard to remove, and keep such ads and characters off the site, so I can assure people that it's definitely a good site to use when searching for work, housing, cars, etc if used properly, and with your wits about you. |

| Should all apparantly unsolicited appraisals of Gumtree from disinterested punters carry the heading: Advertorial? |

No, because it's not advertorial. It's a completely 100% true story.
As mentioned in one of my earlier comments, I was trying to get a bit of a positive vibe happening as opposed to all the negativity.
Are all disintersted punters, or even Gumtree staff wrong to post good things about Gumtree in here?.....if so, why should it not be allowed/have the heading 'Advertorial' anyway?..... |
