| Why are Gumtree allowing people to post adverts for the sale of poor quality fake Chinese copies of Links/Tiffany and Pandora jewellery?.Why ae Gumtree not taking down the ads when reported. These ads are misleading and illegal as the genuine items cost upwards of £280 to over £2000 so any advert between £25 and £70 must be for the imported items which you can buy from China for between £4.00 and £8.50. |

This is not true. My fingers are worn to the bone reporting illegal ads for Links/tTiffany and Pandora jewellery on all of the Scottish sites on a daily basis and over a week later the ads which are selling cheap imported Chinese fake copies are still up and running. Many of the ads are from the same advertisers posting misleading ads on an ongoing basis which breach intellectual rights. If you check you will see that ads reported up to seven days ago are still online.
The real items cost between £200 and £1000 and the fakes are being advertised between £25 and £70 for items bought online from China at around £8.50 or less each. |

Another 2 days gone by and not only are alll the misleading ads for fake Chinese copies of Links of London etc jewellery still up and running but even more are being added by the same people on an almost daily basis.
I note than when reporting them that many of them have already been reported yet are still online.
Just log into Glasgow or any Scottish city and you will see 10 day old and onwards ads selling this crap as if it was the real thing.
I am shocked and horrified about your laxed attitude towards fraud being perpretated on Gumtree. |

Do you report them as illegal? This will get them sorted out quickly. But they have been removed, next time you try it out, take note of the 8 digit number at the end of the URL. You will see that when you see the ad again, it is another number because we remove the ads but them they put identical ones back up.
we really do react quite quickly to these requests but it can be frustrating as they put them right back up. but then we just take them down again! Thanks for reporting these as well because this raises the urgency. |

Hi,yes I do report them as illegal.
I understand what you are telling me but still cannot comprehend why an ad reported as illegal by me and others is still online with the same number and has a this ad has already been reported indication on it up to ten days after reporting it and it still has not been deleted. I understand people put ads back up but they would then be in for the day they put them back up again and not still showing on the original day and date.
I still maintain the illegal ads are not being down and are still live a week after they have been reported. |

| that if you check the Scottish cities you will see lots of the same con people posting the same or new ads trying to sell fake Links of London/Tiffany and Thomas Sabo jewellery.Perhaps if you have a wee bit time to spare you could have a look at them and advise your compliance department accordingly. They have all been reported by myself or other subscribers. All the ads are breaching the 1994 copyright act and infringing on the intellectual rights of the owners.I know that you are snowed under with similar problems in other categories but wonder if there is any way to stop these scammers like on e bay where certain words show up as not accepatable to advertise and youu cannot advertise fake copies. |

| Well we've made some progress here in that the CS team has decided to take a much harder line on these fraudsters and delete their ads with less deliberation! |

If it helps at all in your deliberation 99.9% of all ads on Gumtree for Links of London,Thomas Sabo,Tiffany and Pandora are for cheap imported Chinese fake copies. It is very seldom that anyone ofers a genuine item of any of these makes for sale.
An easy way to tell the fakes from the real is the selling price.
All the fakes are bought bulk between £4 and £8 and are offered for sale on Gumtree between £20 and £40 whereas the real items cost from at least £120 to over £2000.
Also the number and frequency of the ads are a dead giveaway as,as already stated it is very very seldom a genuine item is offered for sale.
also it is doubtful if there is as much genuine Links etc has ever been produced as is currently on offer on Gumtree.
Dupilcate, triplicate and even more times ads on a daily basis are also a sure sign that the item is a fake as is the kid on reasons for the sale" my boyfriend gave me it and we broke up,unwanted present, only worn once etc.
Another way to spot a conperson is the fact they offer to get you any item in the range or that they have many different items available or have four of the same item for sale as no ordinary person could realisticly have so many item of these brands for sale.
You should report consistent offenders to trading standards who confiscate the gods and will not hesitate to prosecute under the 1994 copyright act. |
