You can try One SE8 at Deptford Bridge .....its a huge apartment complex with 8-10 building in its gated premise...tastefully done by St James apartment with 2 mins walk to DLR station (Zone 2 so cheap travel) that takes abt 12 mins to Canary Wharf and 20 mins to Bank. A train from Greenwich (2 mins by train) will take u to London Bridge in 8 mins and Charing X in 17 mins.
A Tesco is 4-5 mins away by train and ASDA 7-8 mins.
The premise has onsite cafe, its own store, gym and swimming pool for resident usage. Its a very safe area and borders Greenwich and Blackheath. The crowd is really young because of its affordablity.
The damage wud be in the range of £825-850 for 1 bed apartment or £700 for Studio. Try righmove.co.uk to get listed properties....i managed to negotiate only £25 off/month on my rentals and pay £825 for one bedroom Cheerio Raj
PS You can visit the website that has got a video of the location as well.... http://www.onese8.co.uk/ |

Not safe OR quiet.
You're gonna have to pay a lot of money to get both of those near the centre of London...good luck. |

In my opinion, Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia are the best places to live in London - close to parks, the west end, good transport links. They have a nice community feel - good mix of offices, bars, cafes, independent shops and residential property. There is a healthy student population there.
That'll be £50 please. |

Bluey, you're doing it all wrong! If you want to charge for something, you need to get them to agree to pay you before you give them the answers, like PropertyNotSoGenius's offer. |

I totally agree. Have lived in both and loved it for the above reasons - they have such a good vibe.
I would also add Marylebone to the bunch, and if I can splurge, Chelsea |

Whilst I.T. contracting in London over the past 10 years or so, I have personally lived at:
Palmers Green, Crouch End, Fulham, Tulse Hill, Crystal Palace, Camberwell Clapham, Battersea, Isles of Dogs, Tottenham, Angel, Brixton, Peckham, Brockwell and Guilford outside London. You can find out what in my opinion, the best areas are in terms of price, transport links, amenities and crime rate on http://www.findyourfeetinlondon.com/ |

| I live in Wimbledon, 4 minutes walk from station, and it is very quiet and safe away from the bustling Broadway. Excellent connections with London Waterloo every 3-4 minutes, circle line underground, tram to Ikea and Croydon (in case you want to go there). Clapham, south of train line is quiet nice too, although it is quiet busy but you can find quiet areas/streets. Just 2p. |

Take a look at the result of the recent Communities & local Goverment survey voted for by the resident of all London Boroughs. Richmond came out on top as peoples favourite, followed by Chelsea, Wesminster and Wandsworth. Worst boroughs were Newham, barking and islington

| Perhaps the Original Poster (OP) should specify their budget and also about their lifestyle and where they work will be working in London. A bit pointless saying people should live in Depford etc... if people have jobs near Luton etc... |

Muswell Hill is a quiet, safe and nice area but is quite far from the city Centre and there is no tubes there so you will have to get buses everywhere which can be a nightmare.
You should consider Crouch end which is south from Muwell Hill and closer to the city. It is a lovely, leafy, quiet area, very middle class, gorgeous victorian terraces.
Rent is reasonable here as there are no tubes here but is a 5-10 bus ride to finsbry park which is the closest tube. Buses are very reliable here onee every 5 mins. Plus fantastic bars, pubs, restaurants and parks nearby.
Good Luck |

I live in Ealing - half way between central London and Heathrow airport - and I'd recommend it if you're looking for somewhere safe and convenient with lots of parks and excellent pubs. It's a quick ride into the CBD and you have a choice of 4 tube/rail lines: Central, Piccadilly, District and Overground.
In fact, the London Borough of Ealing has been judged the "Best Achieving Council of the Year" - not just in London, but in the whole of the UK: http://www.ealingtoday.co.uk/default.asp?section=info&page=concouncilaward001.htm |
