I am looking for an item that is quite rare, and I wish to search nationally. How can I do this without having to load each individual city ?
Thanks in advance. |

aNNOYING ? WHY
you dont go into a vegetarian restaurant and complain when they wont serve you steak.
If something is set up for a specific purpose, why compalin that it doesnt fit your particular needs
The majority of problems on gumtree are from people who forget that its for face to face trading and send off cash or even their goods to nigeria.
try ebay or gogle your item or post a wanted ad watch for scams |

Annoying as the I want is rare and therefore more time consuming to search for. As a classified site I had hoped to be able to search nationally that is all. Withover 50 cities listed it means over 50 searches, on a potentially daily basis. No thanks.
As for scams ? you've lost me there? I wasnt questioning scams at all. |

no what i am saying is that if you advertise for something be wary of people scamming you.. ie promising you they have it and then not delivering the goods.
sometimes people get all het up by finding summit at a good price finding something rare they are looking for and they forget their commom sense
as a matter of interest what is it you are looking for? |

Hi RTS1974
As montyzuma says, we do encourage local, face to face trading.
However, we do know that there are many Gumtree users like you who have specific interests and would be prepared to travel to meet face to face in order to find that rare item/service.
We are working on a change to the way that search works on Gumtree which should make things better for you. We hope to have this rolled out in the next month or so.
To help us in this work, we would be interested to know what you are looking for, if you'd be happy to tell us?
Thanks! |

Hi RTS1974. Not sure whether you'd be interested in searching for this "quite rare item" in other UK sites besides Gumtree. If so, I would suggest eBay.co.uk (i.e. if you have not done so already). |

| I assume luckyman, you are going to take responsibility when people are scammed when buying stuff from the other side of the country. |

Just use Google to do it for you with the site search string:
my item site:*.gumtree.com
Just replace "my item" with what you want and copy and past it into Google. Using the advanced search feature you can restict it to anything Google has picked up in the past week or month or whatever.
This will return results for all of Gumtree across all the different cities, hope that helps,
Chenga. |

| I too am looking for something very rare that I would be prepared to travel to the other end of the country for. I cannot use eBay, as it is an item that would appear in Gumtree's pet section, and eBay do not do live pets. In fact there are quite a lot of things that eBay do not do, but that is another story... |

| I agree, I have searched gumtree in the past but never joined before as I also find the search system per city is annoying. So its good news to hear that this is going to be updated! I am sick of greedbay and pickpocketpal and finally at the end of my tether with them! |

I used Chenga's system, and it worked - in fact it worked too well. It showed me an ad that must have been removed as being scam, because it is not in the listings under the date shown on the ad.
So beware!! |

equeally annoying is the fact that lots of items from outside your chosen area appear in the listing
i thought having a localised gumtree was to keep the ads local to your area , posters from miles away regularly post on the london section,
if the postcode doesnt fit the area - dont post the ad ! |
