Anyone asking for any sort of money for you to obtain oil jobs is pure scam.
And am sure there will be more cases of these as the recession bits and more redundancies are made. |

I am an advanced scaffolder with over 10 years experience and have been seriously thinking about working offshore. Can you tell me there are any opportunities for scaffolding offshore?
Thanks |

Why does it always boil down to the stupid old saying 'You have no experience?'
: Well - If no one gives u a chance - You wont gain any experience, so by telling people u have no chance of getting off shore... Actually ur Completley Wrong!!!
By paying for your own survival, at this moment in time you actually probly have more chance of even getting a look in off shore than some one with out! Even if you have to go off as a Steward to start off with uv still got ur foot in the door!
but then thats just my opinion!
You have no right to tell any one who has any chance cuz after all ur just another buddie thats working under sum one else! and when all the golden oldies off there kick the bucket, with out us younger folk their up S**t creek!! |

Personaly, right now, I would not advise anyone to enter the oil and gas industry but that is up to the individual. Sure the money is good and pays very well but it does take a certain type of personality to work out there and not everyone will be cut out for this kind of life.
There are many ways to look for employment in the oil and gad industry. If anyone asks for money to find you a job then that is an obvious scam because employment is free to everyone so what ever you do, DO NOT PAY ANYONE TO FIND YOU EMPLOYMENT.
As for doing your off-shore survival, I would not pay for that by yourself. If companies are looking for new people they will pay that for you. If you have the right skills they will take you so paying for it yourself does not nessicerily make you look keen.
There are many websites you can go onto but you'll probably find they are looking for experienced people:
www.oilcareers.com
www.rigzone.com
www.worldwideworker.com
www.drillers.com
If you have many good qualifications and you are young enough visit the websites of BP, Shell, Chevron, Woodside, Oilsearch or Amerada Hess or Exxon Mobil.
A good starting point is the major service companies in the UK such as Expro, Schlumberger, Halliburton and Q-Serve all based in Aberdeen and Yarmouth. Check out their websites and you never know, you might just get lucky.
As for me! I am looking for a way out of this industry after 18 years. You will find that after a while you become trapped and the chances of finding a shore based job that pays better are very very slim.
If anyone does need advice drop me a line and I will let you know if someone is trying to scam you or not.
Good luck in your endeavours!! |

The above is pretty damn good advice, you have the list of free versions to get offshore so if you don't want to pay use the above, I do disagree about wanting to get into the oil n gas world but each to their own opinion I say.
For me it is always up and down and at the end of the day, if you are are a welder, a rigger a scaffy etc, if there is no work on you can work where you live, and if there is no work there you were buggered anyway...So you may as well earn top doe if it's there.
One helpful tip....a friend of mine is in oil n gas recruitment, do not believe a word they tell you...Recruitment consultants are like double glazing or second hand car salesmen, absolute dogs of war...so please don't think you have made the holly land if one of these ring you up by checking out the free sites.
They will tell you a load of rubbish, as things have been bad at the moment they basically still get the same commission off their client to find someone, but what they do is tell all the possible job seakers how the rates have gone down and say it was 20 quid an hour, now it's only 15....They know you want the job so you take it...They pocket the difference...Dogs.
So my tip is, Don't believe all you hear and see, the oil and gas world is starting to simmer again and a lot of projects are manning up for next year. So if you have some funds get a survival and start looking...
I know PSN have just won a big BP job, something like 330 million for the North Sea, The Wood Group will also be looking early part of next year for BP Andrew...Hope this helps everyone.
And of course, Nigeria and the Caspian are still booming...Mainly locals but if you have experience you can get on as supervising etc.. |

Hi all
Hope i can help, as the wife of a North Sea Tiger and an employablility consultant i can try and advise you of best way to get offshore and not to cost you a penny.
Best way to find funding is to make sure you are registered for benefit. Dosen't matter what type just as long as you are a statistic..! Ask adviser at Jobcentre what help is available due to ecconomic down turn. They should then tell you about Rapid Response, if living in deprived area there should also be Deprived Area Fund (DAF). The adviser should put you in touch with private companies working within the employablility game and they can then put in bids for funding. It helps if you can back up your bid with evidence to say that there is plenty of jobs out there for whatever your trade is, Scaffolder, painter, blaster, welder, rigger list goes on. Anyone without a trade it will be very hard to get on as steward. Go get some experience as industrial cleaner with a rope access IRATA. Again JCP should try and assist you with funding. You should have bid for about £1100 as this should cover cost of course, medical, travel and accomodation. I have successfully sourced funding this way for over 12 men and they all have work offshore. As for companies paying for your RGIT this was done long ago but not now these companies can take their pick of people and they won't look at you if you don't have it. This would only happen if you have a highly skilled sought after trade.
Most men work 2 on 2 off or if really lucky 2 on 3 off. You do not get a wage on your down weeks, but you do get tax rebates and your expenses paid then and this tides you over. On weeks with no pay you are back at work anyhow. Can only speak for Scaffs as thats what my husband does. He earns on average £2500 for two weeks work. But he could not go back to shore work as it is the down time he enjoys... He would have had to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week to get that money and he would then have had no time to himself. He enjoys the time at home with kids as he never saw them much when he worked at home. The pressure is off you for two whole weeks. Can't really complain when you are only working 6 MONTHS OF YEAR. Hope you found this helpful if need more info just ask. |
