You may need to restrict your search to short-term accommodation.
The minimum standard duration of a rental contract in the UK is 6 months. Though landlords can offer shorter contracts, the law here means that they cannot take legal action to evict tenants and repossess the property until 6 months tenancy has elapsed, therefore they know a shorter contract isn't really worth the paper its written on if the tenants turn out to be dodgy.
The only way a landlord can reclaim there property before this 6 month period, is if the tenant defaults on their rent for 2 months. As the waiting list for a court case is so long, it's still too difficult for a landlord to get their property back from bad tenants in under 6 months.
I would think that most landlords and agents aren't prepared to have tenants seeking self-contained accommodation for less than 6 months, therefore you should review your short-term rental options - see the section in gumtree that offers short term lets. |
