When I mean replies, I mean replies to adverts I don't mean replies to initial inquiries, as you point out, these don't go near our mail clusters.
I'd be happy to look at the logs for specific emails if the email addresses are posted here or via the help system |

Yep, we did a few extra tests over and above Dave's constant monitoring both with me and the CS team and things appear to be working fine for us. In all honesty we feel the reasons some emails are not getting through are down to: user's email being banned, junk filters on email programs and some email providers blocking emails from Gumtree. We have tested the system extensively and found no problems. We're really not trying to shirk the blame here thats just the way it seem to be.
If you think about it, there are millions of ads up at the moment and 10's of 1000's of transactions going through every month. If everyone was having problems, we would sure as heck know about it! The CS team would be absolutely flooded! |

Do they get blocked or not?
And if they do, how can I check if my email has been blocked?
I've replied to another couple of ads and it is looking more likely that it has been blocked. - but I can't just randomly reply to adverts I'm not interested in to test it - or someone will report that I'm wasting time and it will get blocked.
If my email has been blocked how do I get it unblocked? I would like to be able to use my usual email so I can keep it organised.
It would be nice to get some definite answers and get this sorted soon so I know I'm not wasting my own time. |

Can you help us out and give us some information about the ads you are replying to?
What ad did you reply to? (looking for 8 digit posting reference)
What time did you reply?
Did you see the confirmation message after completing the CAPTCHA ? (anti-spam device)
If you replied to your own ad, and didn't receive the reply,
Have you had replies from other users?
Have you received the emails from Gumtree confirming your ad or telling you that your ad is now 3 days old?
This will help us to check out your reports.

Just to give you all an update - I am having exactly the same problems and it is infuriating.
I now have three ads, each with different email addresses (Hotmail, Googlemail and my own domain name) and none of them are receiving any replies - not even my own test emails to them.
I assume it can only be one of two things:
1. My IP address here at work is blocked meaning anything I send is not actually being sent (even though I get confirmation). I'll be able to test this at home tonight and confirm if it is doing it there, too.
2. Gumtree is blocking my replies based on my name / email address. Given that I have trialled all 3 email addresses its unlikely but you never know. Either way, its making me incredibly angry not being able to see if I had any replies to my ads! |

With respect guys, I think its a bit much to ask someone non technical to reply with both my work and home IP address plus all of the adverts I've replied to - there have literally been dozens, many of which I couldn't find even if I tried!
I have emailed Jon with all of my email addresses used (four of them) for both replying to ads and receiving replies.
Please see my other thread that details the full extent of the problem. Clearly an IP range (or multiple IP ranges) are being banned indiscriminately.
It is worth noting I live nowhere near to work (other side of London) so there is no risk of me being on the same IP range at home and work. |

To be honest despite liking gumtree alot i have to say that there have been problems for a long time. i noticed it back when you could bump a ad up by editing it. about that time i was placing different ads in the casual section for different things and after paying for featured and the ads vanashing we found it was because gumtree where counting some as duplicates and removing them without warning. effectivly banning my email as well but without informing us.
anyway moving to more recent times my ad placed today recived no replys. tried to remove and replace add using different new emails and add appears but no replies so each time i replace the add it shows on site i reply to it and never get the email.
here is my assumption and it may be off.
i think that people place a casual ad then when it moves down the listings people remove it tweak/change it and re post it and at that point maybe gumtree bans the email.
anyway to prevent duplicate post you would be better returning to the system where editing a post bumps it back to the top. but then you would not make the fee you charge for that service.
funny how you ban people for duplicate posting and such but when i report spam and dodgy stuff it stays on 90 percent of the time |

These three questions should be able to be answered by anyone who knows how the gumtree system works, without me giving any more information. I have already emailed jonin60seconds asking him to check my email for me but I got nothing more than an automated response. I would like some answers! |

The situation is fairly complex and I'm afraid that in order to protect the site from spammers, we can't give too many details about how the system works. We have a number of automated tools which identify ads/replies which may be inappropriate or against Gumtree posting rules. We take appropriate action on all ads/replies identified by the tools.
If you contact us here, http://www.gumtree.com/cgi-bin/help.pl?f=2&s=6 giving the details mentioned above, we'll be able to check if any restrictions have been placed on your access to Gumtree and review that restriction (if there is actually one)

hmm that dosent quite sound right to me.
spammers will work around or beat most systems so i really honestly belive that there is more to this
i have tested this whole problem the following way.
1. put different adds up 1 at a time only using new or different emails.
2. sent replies to each ad using made up emails
3. despite posting adds all day and like i said only 1 online at any time
i have not recived any replies either from me or from others.
because i have completley wasted my time thanks to your very poor system i have taken to placing my email in my adds and yet still have not had any replies.
im assuming that being very lazy you have not taken time to check my adds but simply blocked my ip. clearly you have also either not posted my ad and only show it to me when i view using my ip or show my add but block out my email and only show it to me
in regards to preventing spam when i have before listed my number or email i have recived no spam.
simply said loads of people are having this issue but many probably think they just are not getting any replies so they just place more adds leading to duplicates again and again.
your answer is stupid as it does not address the problem at all.
by refusing to explain the issue or offer a solution just a one at a time contact me. means you are just getting more and more complaints and more less happy people.
the fact you ban ip or email and never tell people is completly stupid and frustrating and really just sucks. it is no way to run a company
you will loose customers by continuing to do so |

sadly yes your posts would go up you just would not get replies and wait all day like a mug. this is really great if you suddenly need cash and try to sell something only to get nowhere |

Just to make it clear - I have not posted an ad on gumtree. I am trying to reply to ads with the on-line form.
I assume Fire Dragon, that you sent me to 'Help with my free ad' > 'other help with my ad' for lack of anywhere else to direct me. I must admit the only other category that would cover it is 'Feedback' > 'General Feedback'.
I doubt it would have made much difference anyway as the response I got from Emma Crawford simply asked me to check my Junk email folder. And then, just to prove that she hadn't read my message, she ask me if I had tried replying to my own ad.
Astonishingly I also received a 'Customer Satisfaction Survey' as if my posts on this forum aren't enough to tell you that I'm having problems!
So I'm going to ask the question one last time:

Guys, see further down the forum for my thread titled "Gumtree not sending you your replies - SOLVED" I believe I have cracked the problem, i've certainly found a cause of it anyway.
I believe it is to do with blocking an IP range. I reply to my ads (3 of them), each of them has a different email address, but dont actually get any of the replies. When I use an IP anonymiser, Anonymouse, I get the replies. I have confirmed that none of my details are blocked so there is a serious flaw in the Gumtree system. |

hi thanks for the reply.
i dont have the ad ref numbers as i deleted all my ads but yes i was replying to my own ads.
i always got the (poster will reply shortly) after the captcha
i have not recived my replies nor any from anyone else
i have recived the gumtree 3 day old emails and the activation ones
as a further note after posting a message in the adds about the problem i got a response from someone and did not get my own response when i tested it. therefore i assume my ip is banned.
if you advised people they were banned you would stop all the confusion |
