$60 dollars crikey...

$20 a day me and the wife budgeted on between us, your live like royalty on $15, including hostel, food, travel and beer.

We've always used this website for booking places when not sure about accomodation before getting to a new place in Asia or anywhere else in the world. http://www.hostelworld.com/

Good luck

$60 is nearly 3000 rupees, or nearly £40 a day!!!!......... this fella is backpacking not going all inclusive........ Accomodation shouldn't be anymore than 300 rupees, beer about 40 rupees, cheaper if you look and food costs nothing.....

Only had typhoid once in Nepal which isn't bad considering I was there for 3 months. Never used imodium in my life, just learn your food/language and buy what you see actually cooking on the markets.

Only place in Asia we've spent more than $20 a day is Malaysia, purely because we like to drink.

g'day mate,i will be going to the south ,fly into chennai, they used to call it madras,i speak the languages in the south, stayed there for a while in the 80s.i do have access to a car,i prefer to drive around as you get to see more.and its cheaper.2 nd class trains are not too expensive, but it stinks and flights are expensive, roads are bad ,so i wont advise you to do that
cause you always need a day or two to recover from it.
when will you be there,i leave bangkok next weekend14th or the 15th.nov
you can email me at ,maorilingam@yahoo.com if you need any kind of help .take care and maybe we will catch up in india, cheeers, maoriman,g

hi mte,its the maoriman, about the prices ,kerela is quite cheap,i'll say anything between 30 to 50 pounds should do well,30 if you dont drink and smoke,50 if you do,on the other hand goa can get expensive, cause the season has started, the best thing to do is stay with a family, you get to know the locals well and its a lot safer than the hotels.the last few years have seen alot of tourists getting nicked when you are off for a swim.local banks do safe deposit boxes, take a photo copy of your passport ,,the page where you have your details, and a copy of your visa, and some money ,the banks are open mon.to fri.and you can open it at no cost, you may have to pay about 5 quid for it ,but hey,,better than losing all your stuff, and india can be a bitch when you have to get anew passport and cards sent over, trust me its a bitch, well feel free to ask me anything you want y\to know, take care and safe travels, maoriman,g
