We're relocating to London early next year and need help in finding a place to stay.
We're two married professionals (early 30's) with a 6 month old baby. We need a quiet neighbourhood with nearby parks, very safe. Within an hour's commute of central London.
Our budget for rent (including necessary taxes & utilities) and transport to City is £1,500 per month. We're looking for a 2-bedroomed flat/house, possibly with a small garden, if possible. Furnishings can be limited to white goods.
Before we put out the request for "wanted" properties, we were wondering whether the Gumtree experts could suggest some neighbourhoods for us to start looking...
Thanks very much!

Surbiton is pretty good if you're going to be communting into London. There are mainline trains (not the tube) running nearly every 10 -15 minutes and plenty run express to Waterloo station or only make one or two other stops (16-20 journey). You can get a descent 2 bed flat for around £8oo upwards. Have a look at findaproperty.com good for looking at all areas really. You need to look at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/ to find uptodate info on travelcard costs. I think you'd be looking at something like £160 per person per month for zone 1-6 which includes travel at all times of the day on buses, trains and tube. (children under 16 get free bus travel, not sure about trains though).
The Thames is within walking distance and there are plenty of little parks around. Richmond Park being closest big one, and Kew gardens is a 40 min bus trip away. Hampton Court palace is not too far away either.
Basically you want to make sure you pick an area with a range of outer area trains stopping. Try to avoid being near the end of a single line because you'll probably only get one train per half hour that stops at every station (journey could take over an hour then, plus you probably still need to catch a couple of tubes once you're in central London). Sorry for the essay length reply, hope it helps though. |
