Not sure if you have seen the madhouse lately, but it's really gone down hill..
When I first started coming here, it wasn't perfect but everyone was having fun, going a little crazy, winding down after a hard day at work, fair enough, it is the madhouse after all!
But i'm not sure, if anyone who saw the board when I did, and had a look at it now, would recognise it. It really is now a collection of insults, abuse (aimed at guests to the boards as well as other members), racism and general slanderous behaviour.
The gumtree staff do have a really good idea going at the moment (you only have to look at the growth!), but this sort of racism and slanderous behaviour, as I said, aimed at the public as well as members, will really impact who uses gumtree.
Now you might be thinking how do we get gumtree back to its former glory, the one important thing, you're missing on your forums, are moderators. If you have good, trustworthy moderators that can look after the forums, so you don't have to all the time. I'm sure the 'less-desirable users will either get bored, or will be removed (either leaving themselves, or being banned' resulting in more guests feeling that the forum is theirs as well as everyone elses, and not a selective few.
As I said you do have a really good thing going here, but a small amount of users are wrecking havoc, and your business is suffering for it.

Well said Jack.
Too many abusers are allowed to carry on.
And have far too many usernames to carry on doing it.
The likes of Trustfundbabe, crazy tragic and kosher nostra , only post abusive posts.
Because that is their mentality.
The gum would be a better place if it was moderated more.
Myself and Jack could do the job.

me and stone aren't applying to be moderators, we would just like to see the gumtree forums become as useful as the postings on gumtree i.e jobs, and flatmates. Stone was just suggesting we would be happy and privileged to be able to have a part in getting the forums into a state where guests will come back time and time again and not feel pushed out, or not welcome.

Thanks for the input, we're always looking at how we can improve everyone's experience of the forums.

One thing in particular you all can do right now is to use the "report" link on every thread to report anything that breaks the forum rules to us. We look at every report. Don't forget to include the url of the thread you are objecting to.

londoner, can't open outlook on my machine, hence can't report, i'm sure if one of the mods came by the forums, especially in the evenings (london time) it should serve as a deterrent
