Thanks for your info. Any idea about how feasible it is doing PGCE(Teaching) in Design & Tech and getting a job here. Good degrees and experience overseas but no UK experience in teaching

hi
thats wonderful information.well i am an overseas studet finished my Pg degree in IT in the UK and now looking for job i am currently on the SEGS visa You have said that u work in the recrutment agency can u help me get a job in the IT industry if u can mail me it would be great looking forward to take this ahead......
Extremely interesting reading.....I work for a recruitment agency that specialises in IT and Engineering / Construction. We will happily sponsor anybody that has good skills that we can place with our clients, the Dept Of Work & P in Sheffield charges £150 for us to process a work permit although we go for Tier 2 applications (rare skill sets in the UK).....we do NOT charge our applicants ANYTHING at all (as we get a placement fee from the client). There are no laws against actually giving out work permits, you just have to follow the guidelines. What we ask our applicants to provide is the the last 3 years references (on headed paper) copy of passport signed by a Justice Of The Peace and copies of education certificates (again signed by a JP). The whole process at the moment is taking 2-3 weeks to turn around. If people are charging £1,000 that means they are pocketing £850 for their time which is a rip off....the forms take 25 minutes to fill out....I know because I have bee doing these applications for 7 years.......this obviously doesn't apply to everyone, only those with good skills.....Hope this has given some of you some help....
Hi Kyle and everyone else,

I am pretty much in the same position as most of you.

I will be graduating in a few months with a Meng in electronics engineering and the job hunt has not gone very well so far, leaving me to seriously consider my options being a foreign student.

============================================================================================
Kyle, can you please email me the details of that company and anyone else who have had a good experience with a company/agency that sponsors work permits, please feel free to email me at altras@yahoo.com.

============================================================================================

Dmn, I feel your pain but just keep going and don't give in.

Thanks All,
Bry

I was the agent who posted the information about Tier 2 work permit applications.

Herewith is a list of the Tier 1 rare skill sets that is posted by the Dept. Of Work & Pensions. If you have these skill sets you will find as opposed to a Tier 2 application where you can still get a work permit as long as the employer has given proof of advertising the post and has not had a good response and you are unique. But Tier 2 you would preferable need a degree (or equivalent) and you would still need to provide the relevant paperwork copy of passport signed by Justice of the Peace, last 3 years work references on HEADED ORIGINAL PAPER and copies of education certificates again signed by JP. Don't be put of by the fact that these jobs below are quite niche, e.g if you were a water modeller, you would get in on the basis of a Hydrologist role....or if you were a Design Engineer with Aerospace experience you would get in on the basis of being a Transport Engineer. Hope this helps...

On a personal note I place engineers, construction, water, environmental (and some IT people) people on a permanent and contract basis and provided I can find a good requirement then I am happy to sponsor you for a work permit (I can't guarantee finding you a job, but it won't cost you anything to forward your CV to me). As I said before the DWP charge £150 to process a work permit....my advice is to specifically find recruitment agencies that do this, explain your position, what you are looking for and keep your fingers crossed I have placed a large number of Kiwis, South Africans, Indians, Australians and Amercians quite a large proportion of whom have stayed and gone for permanent residency (which is available after 4 years) My email is bill@benchmarque1.com

Hi there

The following points may help:

1. Employers normally dont feel too comfortable about accepting applicants who dont have a right to work in the UK.
2. Private as well as Public employers can apply for a WP
3. There are two main types or WP - The B&C (Business and Commercial) visa which is normally for 5 Years and the TWES (Training and Work Experience Visa) which is normally for 3 years and normally available to professionals who need training in their respective fields.
4. The B&C is the preferred option for many as it is more flexible than the TWES. The main drawback of TWES is that the holder must return to their country when it expires. The B&C however can result in indefinite stay if the holder has worked satisfactorily for 4 years.
5. What you need to do is to find employer who need your skills and experience and try to convince them to get you a workpermit. All that is required is a job offer and you can then hire a solicitor to handle your case. Many Solicitors have a no win no fee type charging scheme. The fee varies however a good solicitor will probably charge around a £ 1000 for the full case. I personally believe going to a solicitor is worth the money if they can get you a 5 years B&C visa.
6. Based on my experience candidates who require Work authorisation to work in the UK are not entertained by agencies. So you would need to contact employers directly.
7. The other option is the HSMP which by far is the best for people wishing to work in the UK and go for permanent residency at the end. HSMP is more flexible as you can work for any employer and dont need a job offer as long as you fulfil the criteria. You may want to consider it as a option seriously

I hope this helps

Avi

Hi Kyle

I am an ISEB certified Software Test Engineer having around 4.2 years of experience in the field of Testing, Application Support and presently as a Business Analyst. I have completed my BEngg in electronics & comm. and have been working on Investment Banking projects for the past couple of years with one of Worlds top most Investment Banking client.

I just went through the mail trails in the forum which have been very informative. Considering my experience in Banking IT, would you suggest any consultancy or list of employers who sponsor work permit in my field of expertise.

It would be highly appreciated if you could mail across the consultant details through whom you got your work done.

I would also like to know wat is the success rate of gaining an HSMP if u score around 95 point on the shelf.

If i am not asking much can you please give me the names of all such agencies or anybody sponsoring work permit for UK.
You can write to me on james_fonseca@rediffmail.com
I have a valid tourist visa of one year, will it be of any use as I am planning to come down to UK next month and hunt for jobs.
Do you think it is advisable?

Thanks

AVI - great advice, it took me over £2,000 to find the right company. I have an MBA from Florida State, which I was told would help me to find a good job. I did find a job but they wanted me to do the running around for the ork permit.

I wanted to do it on the cheap and decided to do the papaer work myself after reading a lot on information and getting tips from people who'd been through the process. I gave all the information to my potential employer and the application was refused - the company then dumped me.

I went to IAS as someone above mentioned, and three different people gave me conflicting advice. A flat mate said she heard a company called Breytenbacs (or something like that) was good. They charged me to see them and their advice was terrible.

I did find another employer willing to get a work permit for me, but again I had to do the running around. The company made the application and it was refused based on advertising.

I did find a company who are absolutely brilliant and somehow got the refusal overturned - I have recommended lots of people to them. I want to mention their name but I don't want this to seem like an advert by them.

All I will say is there are many employers who will give you a chance, but they are hard to find. There are many agencies out there, but few who give honest and clear advice (and for free). I have now been here for two years and I am having a great time.

As for the IAS, I think the person who wrote that comment must work for them or must of had some baaad advice from a bad agency.

I was the recruiter who posted the information on work permits on Gumtree, I work for Benchmarque1 ---- Firstly I apologise to all the people who emailed asking about work permits, due to the number of emails I have had it has been impossible for me to answer back to everybody. But all will be read I promise, and be assured that if I have anything suitable I WILL come back to you.......

Unfortunately the IT side is particularly quiet and we are more busy seeking Chartered Civil Engineers, Environmental Experts, Electrical Engineers, Highway Designers etc.........As I said before I am happy to sponsor people for work permits, BUT only if I can find a suitable vacancy. And a client who is willing to take an overseas employee....

I have recently placed one Indian engineer, an Engineer from Pakistan

I am now finding that clients ARE definately coming round to taking on more overseas workers and are happy to get involved in the SIMPLE process of getting a work permit. Certainly in the construction industry, and especially in London there will be a dire shortage of skills as the Olympic construction projects get under way.
