I have sirfed Croyde numerous times and can only say it is one of the best beach breaks I have ever surfed. Best on a low tide or a dropping tide. This place has serious juice, so much so that I have actually seen a bodyboard snapped in half.

Polzeath down in Cornwall is a good wave, it has three peaks at low tide and one is a sort of mini reef break. The nice thing about Polzeath is that the rides are really long and the wave really walls up nicely when the swell is from the right direction.

Check out www.magicseaweed.co.uk as it has a good 7 day swell forcast. Allegedly the waves will be at Bournemouth this weekend, with Saturday looking good. Bournemouth however gets super crowded, even now in the winter time.

Bude, down in Cornwall is good and so is Praa Sands, though Pra is jam packed with spongers nearly all of the time. If you fancy some daredevil reef experiace then Porthleven is the place, a super shallow and super fast right reef , its is good but needs a good solid size to really get working. I have been out when its been about 4ft with the occasional 6ft set coming through and I can say it was hairy. Also plenty bodyboarders and they charge beyond belief.

Try the thames. If you want good surf.

Leave this godforsaken Island and go where god went....Ireland (west coast or Northwest) In Northern Ireland find a surf shop called Troggs in a quaint but slightly tacky village called Portrush and ask for surf advice the guys in there are really helpful. Honarary Kiwis!

Thurso and Shit Pipe in scotland are the best surf spots in the UK.

Whether or not you can ride them depends on your ability....

you will find it freezing mate. i wear a 5/3mm wetsuit between november-may. at its coldest you'll want boots, gloves and possibly headware. in the summer a 3mm will suffice and the water remains tolerable until october.
check www.a1surf for sea temperatures and swell charts

My friends and I are in the process of organising a surf holiday in Europe for this summer. Has anyone heard about Mundaka - it's on the northern Spanish coast in the Basque Country - I just found about about it by reading here:

Has anyone been?
