You know the way these dull TV shows advise you to paint your house in a 'neutral' magnolia when you're trying to sell it? Well, is there some similar rule that no-one has told me about when it comes to advertising for a housemate?
I'm looking for a place to rent in Brighton, and no-one offering a place seems to have even a half-ounce of personality. About the most exciting thing anyone says in their blurb is "Hope you like cats". For God's sake, these are people advertising for someone to come and live with them and the most jaw-dropping thing they can talk about is their new cooker or how they like a glass of wine at the weekend (gosh).
I've done it the other way round now - put an ad in the 'houseshare wanted' section (http://brighton.gumtree.com/brighton/50/25408650.html). Still no joy though. At this rate I'll have to cling to the underside of the pier and try to pass myself off as some kind of mutant barnacle. Of course, anyone reading this with a place in Brighton is welcome to reply... Until then, anyone know what noise a barnacle makes? |

Advertising in the wanted section? If you are lucky, you might find a scammer with personality |

I have been flathunting in London reccently, and I completely ignore adverts where people put no effort into describing the flat and themselves - it saves you time in the end.
Im certain their lack of effort results in a lack of quality interest in their flat too, so take heart, Karma normally prevails in these situations I think =) |
