We are moving from the US to work in Woking. I heard it's boring and a commuter haven. Someone told me to look at Guildford. What is that town like?
Also, I was looking at Fulham and Hammersmith (I like that there is something to do up there) but Google maps said its a 40 minute commute to Woking. Is that public transit times or roads? Is it accurate at all?
Thanks, hopping the pond is scary but I CAN'T wait |

Woking and Guildford are pretty similar (boring chav-infested commuter towns) although I think you'd find a little more to do in the latter. Living in London and working in Woking would certainly work, and wouldn't be too bad as you'd be commuting against the peak flow direction. Fast trains from London Waterloo to Woking take just under 30 minutes, but this would take longer if you lived further from Waterloo and had to commute there first. Hammersmith to Waterloo by Tube would be around 30 minutes as well. I don't drive but imagine it would take a lot longer, and anyway, driving in London is being discouraged at the moment due to congestion and pollution.
Hope that helps! |
