just called pss removals ( http://www.pssremovals.com/ ) for a quote to move stuff back to syd.
they said there is an $88 charge at the australian end, for inspection by the quarantine service, which their agents in sydney will invoice me for, and they will not release my goods until that is paid. they said it's mandatory whatever the nature of good that's being shipped (a computer, whatever).
this is the first time i've heard of such a charge...is it legit, or just a way of getting more money out of us suckers?
if you've shipped stuff to sydney and not had to pay this charge, who'd you go with? |

Hi Nathan - my mother in law just went back to queensland and she was given similar info for stuff she was transporting. I don't know what ended up happening however you could send an email to AQIS in Oz and ask them if it's legit.
who did you use by the way to send your stuff back. we're going soon and have to go through the process of finding people.

Hi Nathan,
I work for a company in the unaccompanied baggage industry and we include this charge in to our quotes. I do not know why our competitors do not do the same but the companies are aware of this charge but fail to devulge this informaiton to the client. Oh by the way the chage is about right for the AQIS charge. I guess they assume they will loose the business.
Go well
