For the trip I did, I got the e-mail addresses of the others going on the trip from EoE and arranged a meet up in London a few months before we left. Got about half the people along.

Make sure you can cross from India into Burma and get across Burma (combinations of visas, area permits and bridges down can easily make it impossible) - tried it a few years back and no go Crying or Very sad
