Hey.
I moved back to London a few months ago and have a well paid job, only problem is while I was in other parts of the country I built up a credit rating that has banks laughing incrediusasly and then calling security. What is my chance of either avoiding a credit check or using the fact that I now have a good "career" type job? Do most landlords credit check down here and how tough are they? |

Credit checks are common but rigour/scope will depend on the landlord or letting agent. Some landlords won't touch tenants with CCJs, for example.
Your options include repairing your credit rating, offering a guarantor and paying a higher sum of rent and/or deposit in advance.
In a worse case scenario, you won't be touched with a barge pole unless you pay up 6 months rent in advance and provide a guarantor.
In a good scenario, you'll encounter a landlord/agent who is dumb enough not to undertake these checks and is happy with proof of earnings. |

This is an unfortunate situation as the landlord him/herself may be up o their eyeballs in debt with banks, but they, alas are in a position of power to make dam sure that you 'ain't like them'.
Walk away from them but before you do ask them for a a credit check reference. Under no circumstances give your personal details away as there is the possibility that it will all end up halfway across the world in time. If you have hassles contact me on 'avison_743@hotmail.com' and I will act as mediator....no charge. |
