Well, I finally got sick of it all and used Flatland yesterday. Was actually quite surprised. I called and the woman told me they had a place in Bethnal Green for £75, so I went out to Gloucester Road to their office. Bit of a cattle system, you take a ticket and fill in a short form while waiting. Got called in, woman was friendly, asked if I'd had the system explained. I told her I'd been on the website. She took my debit card details and the £62 fee and gave me the address of a place, not as she claimed in Bethnal Green but in Hackney (which she really should've known) I was in and out of the office within about 15 minutes.
My conclusion: Maybe I had a better service because being a local I'm realistic about the place and didn't go in demanding a 2 bed apartment in Kensington for £60 a week. But yeah, no problems at all....so far. |

Do keep us updated because I'm a sceptic
Last time an agency asked for money up front they said that the one bed flat was in Earls Court (it was in Sands End), said it was £180 per week (when arriving, landlady said it was £250) and to top it off it wasn't one bedroom but a studio
Needless to say I now know asking for money upfront is not legal but at the time we really couldn't be asked to fight them back for it.
Seems like its the norm for crap agencies to do the Ryanair thing and say a flat is in place A when in fact its in place B (flights to Bratislava land in Austria...)
Keep us posted! |

| I'll pick up the keys tomorrow, suppose that will be the real test, to see if the landlord hasn't done a runner with my holding deposit. First impressions though that while the service was ok, £62 is a bit much considering I've taken the first place I saw. Seriously easy money for Flatland. They don't much on their office either plus the staff had that "I'm on min wage struggling for commission" look to them. Someone must be making a FORTUNE! |

Hold oh, so you've actually seen the place? I didn't realise you got all of it sorted in a day. Nice!
Good luck with everything! |

Update:
Just been to get the keys but the contract isn't ready leaving some potentially dodgy landlord clinging firmly onto my holding deposit.... |

Do you know if they are the right keys?
