As a long established and caring independent 4x4 specialists based in Sussex we have operated as GUMTREE 4x4 for 28 years. Sadly gumtree.com does not have a visible presence on the telephone system so we get their unhappy, confused and angry customers and the police put on to our phone number by lazy directory enquiries operators and received regular e-mails from the same people who do not look at the address that they have googled before spouting on about disappearing ads, scams and complaints of all sorts.
I have managed to get contact e-mails for a couple of people in the gumtree.com organisation but they simply ignore it if I pass a message on now. Gumtree.com has a slow and unreliable helpdesk system and fails to make it clear that it has not telephone number on any of the websites I have seen.
So I will now start putting the e-mails I receive on here for gumtree.com and all to see until they start behaving responsibly towards their customers and society in general.

Is it possible to post an ad in more than one category? I have posted job advert in "Hotel Jobs" listing and I would like to post same advert under "Housekeeping & Cleaning". Is this possible without any extra charge? Or to do this I need to pay twice (like posting 2 adverts)?

I'd like to enquire about ad #37160996, which I responded to recently. This ad has been removed from your website, and I'd like to enquire as to why. The reason for this is that I'm still in contact with lady (Sophie) who placed the ad. There's quite a bit of history behind our email exchange, which I won't go into in this message, but what I'm really wondering is if it's safe and advisable to deal with this individual going forward. What I will say is that she has made some slightly unusual requests with regard to how I prove to her I have the money to pay the bond and first months rent. Your help and advice is appreciated. I’m keen to proceed because the flat looks beautiful from the pictures and it is a very cheap price, but this is part of what concerns me as well – it seems almost too good to be true.

Dear Gumtree



I'm really concerned about my ads. I haven't been able to find them and I'm not convinced they are being published.




I've now made 3 £40.00 payments and I haven't had one phone call or inquiry. I know things are slow but ...





I haven't once seen my ad online and to consolidate you haven't sent me any alerts to tell me you've received the money or a reminder its expired. What proof can you show me that this ad has been processed as its a recession and its costing me a fortune. I have been a dedicated customer for years and I'm seriously considering withdrawing my services and going over to spareroom.





As an aside, landlords have had to take massive reductions in their rents and yet your are not doing anything to help us. Can you not figure out some landlord friendly promotions to start giving something back in these exceptionally hard times and help the market to flow again. Why not start charging the tenant. When they do respond they completely abuse the situation and never follow anything through, so the whole thing is becoming a joke. It's their market so if they had to carry the burden of the cost, they would be more likely to respond when we answer their inquiries.





I look forward to hearing from you and pleeeease treat this a urgent as you take so long to reply and its past the sell by date when you do. It's not a cheap service anymore and your response should reflect that. For your information, I am a member of a landlords group and there is a general bad feeling around gumtree at this present time.





Many people have gone over to spare room as their service is much better value at the moment. Well I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can show me some evidence of my previous ad.

Tried using the form but it would not accept it?.I have tried the gumtree essex casual relationships site and when I get to continue it wont allow me access?.I get the friends etc section but it wont allow me to enter the casual relationships part for some reason?.Thanks.

Will of course try my best john,but cannot promise anything?.I think maybe someone should contact trading standards about them,it seems they have also taken a lot of money from people and ignored their plea for help.Thus far no reply and don't expect one?.I think their address is in London somewhere.I am also fed up trying to contact them,and once again apologise and inform anyone else you are a garage,hopefully this might help a little?.

I would love to help BUT we are a garage in Sussex called Gumtree 4x4! Nothing to do with gumtree.com and established a lot longer than them. I am forwarding this to the only contact I have at gumtree.com but he never seems to bother answering or thanking me so I doubt he will do much this time. I am so fed up with dealing with their angry, confused and upset customers and the police that I now suggest that they advertise elsewhere and/or contact the police!
